There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. battery acid

Yesterday it was raining all day so I took the time to look over my Spyder. At one point I was laying on the floor checking things over. Today I noticed the left sleeve of my shirt was full of holes and discinegrating, BATTERY ACID!

I checked and sure enough, there was battery acid leaking down the left side of my Sypyder underneath the battery. I wiped it down the best I could and will remove the panels to see what happened.

I just picked it up from the dealership on Friday! :edit:

That is the 2nd one I've heard of having a battery leak. Please let us know what happens.

Does anyone know of an equivalent gel battery replacement? After cleaning up the mess, I don't feel very good about putting another wet cell battery back in.

I've had really good luck with the Odyssey dry cell battery. Most of the Boss Hoss guys run these and for the size you can't beat them.

These are a sealed, Valve Regulated Lead Acid battery. They have to be activated by filling with acid, then sealed, let rest, and charged. If the sealing strip is defective, or improperly installed, they can leak. The battery should be covered under the warranty. I would contact your dealer.

Odyssey is the best Lamonster is right. :spyder:

I had a 1 ton Dodge diesel that had two batteries in it to start it. I went to start it in the dead of winter here and she wouldn't crank. I pulled my motorcycle (Boss Hoss) up to my trruck and jump started it with my bike that had a Odyssey battery in it. From that day on I was sold on those.

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE! Please, everyone reading this. Take your covers off the left rear side and CHECK YOUR BATTERY for any signs of leakage! DO IT NOW! As I posted above, mine was leaking from the day I picked it up and today another Spyder owner contacted me to say thanks because his was showing signs of acid leakage.

Rando, what has happened with your battery acid leak? Did the dealer do anything for you? We had our Spyders at the dealers yesterday for them to fix both our 12 volt outlets that they installed but we never tested before leaving the dealership. While there, I asked the service manager about the battery leak issue and he told me that it wasn't an issue with the way that they do the battery prep. So we get home and take off the rear underseat cover to install the Evoluzion brake / turn signal module and I see the bottom left screw and panel nut have the tell tale white residue of battery acid. ::) Also, I see a corresponding white stain on my garage floor where it looks like the battery acid may have leaked once. It doesn't appear to be leaking now and I'm guessing that it was probably only a one time thing as I don't see any other spots on the garage floor besides the one.

Hey Rando,

Heard your Spyder was on the Fritz. Hope you got it fixed and are up and running again. Look forward to getting a ride at some point.

I am waiting for a new factory activated battery from my dealership.

This is from the battery manufacture website http://www.yuasabatteries.com/
Can-Am - Spyder Roadster 2007-2008 990cc
Battery Family: High Performance, Maintenance Free
Battery Type: YTX24HL
Must use Factory Activated battery, due to battery tilt possibly causing leakage.

On a TW200 forum, of which I'm a member, there was a lot of discussion about sealed batteries. One of the posters, who works for Yuasa BTW, reacted when I posted that I had put an Odyssey sealed battery in one of my TW200 trike conversions. He said they were junk and would not stand up to vibration and shock.

Since then I have had that trike on many miles of very rough terrain and maybe even worse yet, many miles of really nasty "washboard". So far I have not had a problem with the Odyssey battery and it cranks over the starter better than the original wet factory installed Yuasa battery did.

Did I mention he works for Yuasa - oh yes I did. ;D

There is a difference between a dealer activated and factory activated Yuasa battery!

EVERYONE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR BATTERY, DO IT NOW! LOOK FOR ANY SIGNS OF POWDER ACID RESIDUE!

If you want to discuss it further, PM me your phone number and I will call you to discuss it.
