• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Battery Acid Leak

Got back from a one hour ride.......plugged Spyder into my battery tender as usual....went back into the garage a few hours later and uh oh......battery tender was still on charge mode:yikes:!!!My Spyder is one year old, 5000 miles and battery tender always roles from charge mode to standby in less than 5 minutes so I knew something is wacky.Pulled LH panels and discovered battery acid had leaked on to lip of rear panel and really pitted a 4 inch area.Pulled battery and cleaned some corrosion from positive terminal.Put battery on bench and connected battery tender up with squeeze clamp connectors and with in 10 minutes it rolled from charge to stand by.I know some members have replaced OEM stock battery.....Will see if BRP will replace my damaged panel.....I am also going to replace the battery tender harness that is hooked up to my battery terminals and maybe just get a new battery as well.
Battery problems anyone???:dontknow:

That is a warranty issue...a battery should be good for more than 1 year and the damage it causes should be covered as well...

There have been a number of battery leak issues. They appear to be caused by improper dealer prep of the batteries at setup. There are very specific instructions as to how this is to be done! The battery must be filled, and left to sit overnight. Sitting a battery of this type on its side is a bad practice anyway, and an error in dealer prep can cause it to fail to gel properly, resulting in leaks.

:agree:

At one time, someone posted info from the manufacturer of the Spyder battery stating that the battery being used in the Spyder was not intended for horizontal mounting. They were recommending factory sealed batteries. Both mine and dltang's batteries leaked just a bit, enough to corrode the lower clip that the screw fastens to on the side panel and put a few small white dots on my garage floor. It has since quit leaking and the battery has been working fine (for over 11 months).

Here is one of my earlier posts concerning this issue:

I am waiting for a new factory activated battery from my dealership.

This is from the battery manufacture website http://www.yuasabatteries.com/
Can-Am - Spyder Roadster 2007-2008 990cc
Battery Family: High Performance, Maintenance Free
Battery Type: YTX24HL
Must use Factory Activated battery, due to battery tilt possibly causing leakage.

Battery Leak Update

Well after seeing where the acid was leaking from the bottom seam of my original Yuasa battery I said time for a change!!I purchased a DEKA etx20L High Performance AGM battery. This baby is completely spillproof and leak proof and can be used in all positions(upside down not recommended). The dimensions are not quite the same as the Yuasa but it straps in the battery holder just fine.BRP is getting me a new LH rear side panel.......the battery is on my nickel......$100,but a definite upgrade so I am o-k with that.I would suggest that all should take a peak at your battery compartment every 6 months or so as I am not the first to have leakage and corrosion showing up.
