• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Batteries (again)- Yuasa vs. third party, gel?

I just did my 2018 RTL. Undo the negative post first. Then remove all wiring. Next you have to get the upper retaining bracket out of the way. Kind of a blind operation, it has two hooks that fit in slots way up in there. Once that is out of the way you tilt the battery out top first. Kind of roll it out. If you use a non-OEM battery the top bracket may have to be adjusted to get a snug fit. I put a Deka in there and had to bend the two retainers in the middle of the bracket out of the way.

One take I had with the disappointing failure of my 10 moth old Yuasa battery. BRP only has a 6 month warranty on their batteries. So basically if you buy the battery from Walmart you get a 1 year warranty, but if you have the dealer install the same Yuasa battery they reduce the warranty to 6 months. Don't fall into this trap. Let the buyer beware.

I did unhook the rubber band that goes to the top retainer plate and remove the retainer plate. I tried to roll it forward, top first, but there is absolutely ZERO slack in the positive lead. So I guess with taking both leads off of the battery terminals would have allowed me to roll the battery out? The whole reason I wanted it out was to be able to attached the pigtail a little easier because the battery sits back/recessed in the cubby hole. Well, at least I know that it should come out that way when the time comes. Thank you for the quick response.

Instead of a new post, I hope asking this question here is OK. Has anyone ever used an Odessy battery in a Spyder? I have not yet checked to see if they make the proper size for a Spyder, but am asking because they have given me outstanding performance in BMW motorcycles for the past 20 years and an accumulated 370K miles in 5 different bikes. I ride year round here, but with having the two-wheelers, the Spyder doesn't see as many miles as the bikes. TIA

I too have long history with Odyssey batteries in my truck and vette and other vehicles. I have the Odyssey battery in my F3 and its going on 3 yrs old so far. It works well but as yet i cannot say its any better than the Yuasa. They are both AGM type batteries and both are made in USA. The Yuasa is usually a few dollars cheaper but that is likely from higher build volumes.

I stock the Yuasa battery in the shop for the Spyders.

The only ODYSSEY AGM battery I have owned was in my recently sold [replaced by a CanAm RS-S] BMW K-75. I believe it was in that bike for at least 10 years and was always kept on a battery conditioner. It never failed to start the K-75 with vigor, and when sold, was still as "spunky" as when new ! I'd definitely consider an ODYSSEY battery again when my RS-S battery begins to fail. What's in the RS-S now ? With the amount of Tupperware and saddlebags that need to be removed just to access the battery, that will remain a mystery until replacement time. Cheers !!

Starting the bike every two weeks is why you have a dead battery. At least take it out for a couple of mile run.

I know this is an old thread, but my battery is a Yuasa YTX24HL it has VRLA nonspillable written on the side. Just checking if it is an AGM or not?
