• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

bar end problem

well my throttle grip was getting stuck open sometimes by rubbing against the module wit the starter button/cutoff....

so i decided to remove the bar end to try to adjust the grip...took the screw out, took bar end off, pulled the grip a little away from the module, put the plastic bar end back in, go to put screw in and wouldnt screw into nothing...take the plastic piece back out and now i have the treaded part that it screws into stuck in my handlebar...tried getting it out and just went deeper and deeper...

how far do those bars go in? as far as to the module? any way to get that thing out or just call it quits?

im ordering new grips soon so just wondering if they come wit new bar ends, its still going to piss me off that its stuck in there though

I would try and use a 3-4" dry wall screw to get a hold of the handle bar end, don't screw it in far, just enough to pull it out. Without a screw in it to spread it out it will keep going deeper.
No real biggie, you can order a new bar end if you can't get a "come-along" attached to it....

You can try a flexible grabber tool to get hold of it or push it out from the other end. Bars are hollow and you can take other end off and use a plumbers sink snake to push it out.

The bars are hollow - so if you remove the other side you could snake something like a bent hanger through and push the part back out.

I pulled a barsnake all the way thru mine once--- so I know this can be done.

I can't remember how the bar-ends were on the original Spyder as I've had a Throttlemeister installed from very early on. If you can't get the part out I can look in my 'no longer used parts' bin and see if I still have mine.

FYI - you can also loosen the two bolts on the throttle control unit (part with the kill switch that you were rubbing against) and move that entire control unit away from the handgrip a bit.

good to know...didnt know the bars went fully through to other end...thought it got held up in the middle somewhere...

Use air.

Either a strong vacuum OR blow air threw the opposite end (via compressor hose.) Both techniques have worked for me in the past.

If you choose to blow compressed air through from the other end be sure to hang a rag over the end it will come out of, or you'll be searching the other side of your shop for the end. :lecturef_smilie:

From now on when you loosen the screw on the bar end cap; just loosen it a little then give the screw driver a tap to unlock the cap inside the bars. You don't want to take the screw all the way out.

I did the same thing and I had to turn the handlebars all the way to the right and it slanted down a little. Then I tapped on the handlebar to work it out. Took a couple tries cause I kept pushing it back in. It finally came out.
