• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BajaRon's Custom Ignition Wire Sets

First I'd like to say thank you to everyone who attended Lamonster's 4 annual BBQ event. What a great time we had. It's all of you Spyderlovers that make it all work.

There were several people who wanted my Custom Ignition Wire Sets but I ran out of them at the BBQ. Next year I'll have more of them available.

I wanted to let everyone know that they are now back in stock. Both the Accel and the MSD sets.

One thing that I am still seeing is people having spark plugs changed by their dealer without having the spark plug wires changed. This is almost always, design for disaster, as your Spyder will usually run worse after getting new spark plugs installed if you do not also change out the wires.

Manipulating the BRP spark plug wires usually causes them to break down and start sending spark everywhere EXCEPT to your spark plugs. In my humble opinion, it is a waste of time and money to simply have the spark plugs replaced, leaving the stock wires in. From what I hear, you end up paying full labor costs when you take your Spyder back to get the wires replaced. Whereas it should cost less to do both (wires & plugs) at the same time.

Not to mention additional down time. I am not sure why dealers don't at least inform the customer of the high potential of wire problems after a spark plug install.

This same kind of manipulation will not affect these custom spark plug wires.

I think this is an important item so i have some questions (i have a 2012 RT Ltd, 3500 miles)

When is the first time you recommend changing plugs and wires and what is the cost, parts and labor and how long before either should be replaced after that.

I'd suggest the first time that you need to have the plugs checked for anything... Unless the bike starts running like :cus: first!
Get your order for them in now; that way you'll have time to figure out how to explain it all to the Missus when she finds the bill! :yikes:

About 15,000 miles is when the stock spark plugs should be changed unless you're running Iridium's. The wires will usually go longer if you don't mess with them. But if you move them around to do other mods or change spark plugs it is very likely that they will not perform after that.

The MSD (Red) set is $65.00 delivered and the Accel (Black) set is $72.00 delivered. The Accel costs me more and that is why the price difference. Both use the same technology to get the spark to the plugs. Helically wound copper alloy wire instead of carbon impregnated fiber core. Both will perform about the same. The Accel wire may last longer.

Since no one has yet worn out a set of my wires I am left to speculate that you'll get about 50,000 miles out of a set. The plugs should go that long as well but again, this is speculation because I am not aware of anyone wearing a set out yet. These spark plugs go 100,000 miles in a car.

A set of spark plugs is $17.00 delivered. I carry both types, RS, GS, RS-S and RT.

Great tip thanks for the heads up. Now just need to remember this when the time comes!

Plugs and wire

I would believe a good set of plugs and wire that you sale would more then likely kick the gas mileage up a little bit ???????????????

Theoretically you'll get better fuel mileage because you'll be getting better combustion. Some do report better mileage but I don't think this is one of the main selling points.

Hey Ron...
Are you working on a replacement set of wires for us 1330 owners??? ;)

Yes, I plan to get these going once I've got the sway bar projects done.

NO WIRES ?????????

I don't think you will need plug wires.
The 1330 is coil on plug. No sparkplug wires.:yikes:

....:hun:...If there are no wires, then exactly how would the electricity get to the " COIL ON PLUG " ???????????...........just sayin ......Mike

I have done a bit of research and I believe you are correct about the 'Coil on Plug' ignition system, which does not require spark plug wires. It is as the name implies. The coil connects directly to the spark plug eleminiating the wires that go between. All you need to do is supply primary voltage to the coil, (as was also mentioned already).

In the diagram below, the spark plug terminal simply plugs into the bottom of the coil assembly and that is all there is to it.

This is not the 1300 Ace motor but gives you an idea of how the Coil on Plug system sits in the motor. This is a very good and efficient method of ignition.

COIL ON PLUG

I hope you're kidding. If not, you need to study harder. roflmao

...Mr. Snoopy, please look at Ron's post #18 above .......see the picture He posted !!!!!! ........If those aren't wires coming out of the " coil-on-plug ".......then please, please, please be patient and EDUCATE THIS IDIOT as to what they are ? ? ?........Did you think the coils got the juice over the AIR like RADIO WAVES or something.:hun:.........:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.......Mike

A POSSIBILITY ??????

:banghead:...Ron only time will tell, but the " wires " on the "coil-on-plug" ( on the ace engine ) may be just as easily damaged as the " TRUE " plug wires are on the previous Spyders . I obviously upset some people enough for them to get ' ANGRY ' about me calling the above shown wires to be ....of all things " PLUG WIRES "...........Somebody please just shoot me :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:....Mike  PS ....there are " SPARKPLUGS " under those COILS .............................................................................................RIGHT ????????????
