Baja Ron anti-sway bar causes chatty Nanny

Lest anyone think this is a complaint, it is most definitely NOT! The Baja Ron anti-sway bar is awesome!

Before my anti-sway bar was installed, my corner speeds were mostly limited by what I felt was comfortable. Nanny was quiet, almost non-existent.

After my Baja Ron anti-sway bar was installed though, it feels a lot more stable in the corners, and now Ms Nanny seems to be a lot more chatty deciding that limits are being reached. It's noticeably better, and I think a must-have for everyone.

Thanks Baja Ron!

Side effects...

That is one of the side effects. Some can be cured with a good alignment and reset of the angle and yawl sensors the rest is tricking the nanny. Easier to do with the manual. But that swaybar does have that effect on the spyder...

I intend to get a Ron Sway bar for my 2013 Rt. I'm no dare devil so I'm not worried about speed in corners except when the occasional sharpie sneaks up on us. I'm am wondering what you mean by "chatty" fratzba and angel and yawl "sensors" Chupaca. And does anyone know if a BajaRon Sway bar will be able to be purchased and installed at SpyderQuest and laser alignments also?:dontknow:

For one year I ran the stock front suspension. The only add on was a single Roadster Renovations spring stiffener on each front shock. At Spyderfest 2016, I finally sprang for the Ron Bar and got Squared Away @the same time. On our return ride home Grandma Nanny made a surprise visit multiple times, especially negotiating the long freway sweepers. This caught me totally off guard. I found myself asking "what's going on here, and why?"
Now that I found this post, I don't feel that I'm alone in this experience after having the Ron Bar and links installed. I'm wondering:
1. How to reduce this electronic intrusion in the short term, especially for 2-up riding. Can front tire pressures affect this? What is the optimum pressure?
2. Is what we are experiencing the result of the limitations of the stock, non-adjustable, front shocks? Do I have to save up for Elka Stage 2 shocks at next year's Spyderfest?

Sorry, fairly new to Spyderdom, what is chatty nanny that people seemed to make mention of? safe riding!
"Nanny", is how we refer to the Vehicle Stability System that keeps us safe and upright. :D
When she starts talking to you; it's really best to listen... :lecturef_smilie::shocked:

Oh! I forgot to mention one of the other side-effects of BajaRon's Anti-Swaybar...

I'm just throwing this out there for discussion purposes not bashing but to see what others may have to say .... So I asked this question to a well known Spyder mechanic (name protected because it's not a bash post) ... Anyway I asked do I really need a sway bar because I like many that's all I hear is 1st farkle is you gotta get a hvy duty sway bar !!! Here was his response

After about ,6,00 miles we put on Baja Ron's sway bar and right away I felt the bike handled much better, then after about another 8,00 miles we added the shock adjusters. OMG, its a whole new bike and very glad we did. Bike now corners much flatter and is more stable at highway speeds. When the time comes to get another Spyder, these two items will be the very first Farkel for us!

Right after taking delivery of my 2014 RT I knew I needed to change the suspension.

Some corners were downright scary. I have ridden bikes for 50 years and I had never been uncertain about hitting a corner at the wrong speed or had to bail out of a turn just to be safe ...

First I added the Dr. Humphries Shock Nuts to stiffen the suspension. That fixed it. The suspension had been much too soft ... or so I had thought.

Then I did the Baja Ron Sway Bar fix. All I can say is WOW.

I don't know if it was the Nuts in addition to the Sway Bar alone but again WOW.

I can get into a corner without a doubt ... much faster than I can take my K12GT BMW.

I can nearly keep up to those kids on crotch rockets!!! No kidding ....

Great conversation -- I thought that it might get some attention, and is why I put my disclaimer up front :chat:

The reason that I think that I'm getting more attention from the nanny is that I'm faster in the twisties than before. It's just a lot more solid on the road, and I'm not second guessing myself nearly as much.

I did an experiment on the way home from work today where I went a twisty route that I know very well, and ran it at the speeds that I did before the anti-sway bar was installed. Nanny was quiet, and I felt that I could definitely have been going faster.

So, it just seems to be a side effect of more speed in the corners, and nanny is just doing her job.

Proper suspension tuning

Now that you have tuned the suspension, put some real tires on and drive it like you've stolen it:ohyea:

So, what actually happens? I've been seriously considering the sway bars, but haven't heard of this side effect until now. Just how panicked does nanny get? Does the screen simply go bonkers with warnings, or does the VSS cut back your rpms? And what speeds are we talking about before nanny starts bitching?

The nanny cuts back on the "throttle" to slow things down.

Speed? It's not based on speed, it's based on what the Spyder is doing.

I know that it can be triggered by;

1) rear wheel slipping, like trying to start from a stop when the rear tire is on the slick white cross-walk line.
2) If a front wheel starts to lift, like going too fast/sharp in a corner.

I'm sure there are more.

:agree: The VSS is constantly checking things like:
Where are the front wheels pointed?
Which direction is the bike leaning in?
Are there any funky speed differentials among the three wheels?
And a host of other stuff that I can't begin to remember, before the coffee hits it's peak stride...

The reason for all of this? The BRP engineers know what the bike can, and cannot do. They've put Nanny in charge of making sure that we all stay on the proper side of the boundaries. Some recent models have had the parameters changed, and we've been given more leeway in what we can get away with.

What might happen if Nanny was disengaged? Ask the folks in this Slingshot, if they'd ever want to try this again. :yikes:

BajaRon's Anti-SwayBars help to keep the lean angles closer to what the Nanny expects to see. It'll help to make the bike feel more stable in corners and crosswinds, and perhaps even let you play "Speed Racer", with a bit more aggressiveness... :D

I know that the VSS is constantly monitoring everything under the sun, but my question arose because of phrases like "chatty nanny" and needing to listen when "nanny speaks". So I just wondered how, or if, the system actually alerts us.

We're just offering up some Human qualities, to a technological wizard... :D
If "She" senses that things aren't going according to the Plan; she'll reduce the power to the rear wheel, and apply the brakes to the wheels (individually), as she deems necessary.
You'll feel the power drop off: just like somebody pulled a spark plug wire! Once she's satisfied with the results: everything goes back to normal.
