• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Getting ready for our 10 anniversary cruise to Hawaii on Saturday, and go figure, I decide to shovel my roof, in case we had a major storm while we were gone. I put the ladder on the deck and start up it (done this a hundred times over the years) just go to step on the roof and the ladder kicks out. Slam my head on the rain gutters and fall the rest of the way to the deck 8'. I guess was blanked out for a bit, as when I came to I was bleeding like a pig, and could not stand. Somehow managed to drag myself inside to call my neighbour, as my wife was out.Luckily neigbour's daughter is a trauma nurse. Anyway long story, short, ambulance comes takes me to the hospital. After numerous x rays, scans etc, I have 2 black eyes , 4 stitches above my right eye. Moral of this story, listen to your wife when she says stay off the roof until she gets home, carry a cell phone at all times, and always, always make sure your ladder is stable. Anyway it will be slow going on the cruise and vacation pictures won't be pretty,LOL, but could have been much worse! Anyway spyderlovers, will talk when we get back and everyone play and work safe!![TABLE="width: 100%"]

Thank god it wasn't worse :thumbup:
One important fact to remember: A fall from a height equal to your body height can be fatal.
As a fire fighter and carpenter I don't use ladders alone.
Hope you have a good time on your cruise :)

:yikes: Glad to hear that this wasnt' any worse!
Well look at it this way; if you've got to heal... Going on a cruise ain't the worst place to do it!
Cruises and bruises...

sail away

Really glad things were not worse. Glad you will still be able to take the cruise. Don't worry about the battle scars I'm sure you will still be recognizeable...:ohyea:

Sorry to hear of your fall. Glad it wasn't worse!

Ladders can be bad news! I've gotten away with my share of using them in less than a safe manner.

In my years as a fireman I saw some really bad injuries from ladders. One guy was trimming hedges with a 4' ladder. He was not even all the way up it. He leaned way out to get a part of the hedge that he'd missed and the ladder kicked out. He had several broken bones, a concussion and a ruptured spleen!

A really bad day for that poor man.

We had a lady that was just standing on a 12" high stool putting decorations on a Christmas tree. It kicked out and she broke her ankle in 2 places. Got a big knot on her head and had double vision for some time.

Glad to hear you did not sustain more serious injuries

At least on Holiday if any one ask's just say - You should see the other guy !

Make sure you get plenty of Rest - No doubt the wife will be watching you more closely and will say from time to time
"I told you So "

Been there Myself

Ouch! I expect that your cruise will be a lot like making a stop on your Spyder. People will constantly be asking you about your black eyes. :yikes:

The misadventures of the young and restless ;)

Thanks all! I am sure once the wife gets over her concern, there will be some "I told you so!" The bruising of my face and leg will heal, the bruise to my pride my take longer!LOL! Yes ladders are a very dangerous thing! They kept me over nuight at the hospital just out of cocern for internal injuries. Like Bob says could be worse, then recuperating on a cruise. Young and the restless! My wife would say more like the "not so young and the foolish!!"

Wear a full face helmet, it'll hide the black eyes. Or better yet wear one next time while working on ladders. :roflblack:

Rest up and heal up.

OUCH...

So glad you are "almost" OK...I swore off ladders 2 years ago..sometimes tempted but know not good decision sooooo....anyway glad you are still going cruisin'...no better place to heal those cruises treat you like royalty!!

Yow! Doesn't sound like fun at all. I rode the ladder down a few years back. Like I was, you are fortunate, indeed. It could have been so much worse. Heal fast...and go buy yourself a roof rake. In my experience, ladders and slippery ground are not a good combination. :)

Ladders scare me, In my younger and more flexible days i would repel out of Hueys.
Now if there's snow on my roof, My motto is ;
God put it there, And God will take it away.
