• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Bad Key????

This is a new one on me. Took a ride yesterday to get gas and after fueling, when I tried to start the machine, the digital dash came up orange with the words "bad key". And as you can imagine, it wouldn't start. After several tries, I pushed it away from the pump to get me out of the way, tried it again, it started and I went on my way.

Silly me, today we went for a ride and after 30 miles or so stopped at a friends and it did the same thing again. But this time it won't start period. I have tried both keys. No luck. If you watch the dash, it looks goofy. Even after being off for an hour, the lawyer screen doesn't come up it goes right to the speedo screen.

Has anyone else had this experience and if so how was it cured? :opps::mad:

i had that show up when i was programing my spare key but got it done has to do with the DESS system take to the dealer have them check it and bring both keys if they have to reprogram them again they will need both keys

:agree: This is definitely one of those, "Get Thee To Thy Dealer; With Both Keys!", happenings...
Sorry! Good luck!

Computer glitches with the :spyder2: can be a PIA sometimes. It sounds like a trip to the dealer to get the keys re-programmed is recommended here.

One key can go bad and also can show up as intermittently bad. But two keys going bad at the same time I don't think so. If it's under warranty let the dealer deal with it. If not I would check the connection to the antenna under the ignition switch.

Have to agree..!!

:agree: take both keys and the roadster. Looks like the ignition switch has failed. If so then that would explain both keys not working and the dealer needs to replace all the locking mechanisms..:gaah:

Check the battery connections ????

Everyone says take it to the dealer. But...first remove and clean both positive and negative connections and the common ground. Check you service manual for locations.
The rationale for checking power and ground is simple. The ignition switch contains an RF transceiver the transmits a signal that is pickup by the ignition key which in turn transmits a low powered signal back to the ignition switch. RF transceiver are like any other electronic device: they require proper power and ground to work. If that does not fix it, you will need to carefully inspect the harness and maybe ohm out the harness. If this is above your skill set, or it is still under warranty, take it to the dealer.

Good luck!!!!

Another thing to try before taking it to the dealer is to do the computer reset. Turn the key on and off three times then wait for the computer to recycle. It might clear out the demons so that you can get it to the dealer.

I think it's too soon to blame the ignition switch itself. The antenna is external to the ignition switch, with it's own harness and separate connector. I believe the antenna is not likely to fail because it is a simple coil of wire. It is more likely a connection issue or the the DESS module has gone bad.

Good point and should be done whenever an electrical issue comes up.

Took it to the dealer

Took it in yesterday to the local dealer and by today both the transcever and ignition module were on order. Hope to be flying by the weekend.
