• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Does anyone know if there is a work around for a "Bad Key". Happening all to often lately. Made an appt. for next week at the dealer but don't want to get stranded in the mean time. TIA

Carry the other key. When the first one fails then immediately put the other one in. If that fails then you know its the computer.
Not trying to be a smart *ss but that's what I would do.

That's what I would do also.
Nothing disrespectful about saying that.

And if you only have ONE key, get another one made ASAP.

You are more likely to become stranded by human error than from equipment failure.

 It sounds as if the DESS is giving you fits... :banghead:
Check out Deanna's thread about this issue in the RTs...

Tried both keys, I thought maybe since I carried both keys that was the issue but happens with one or the other or both near the bike. I am just trying to determine if there is a set of switch codes like on my old Harley to bypass security. I have an appt to have the DSS checked

:agree: If it's gonna think that you're stealing your own bike : just kill it! nojoke
Then you'll be able to get yourself a couple of un-chipped keys, and use them.
(Save the good keys for the important days!)

Yupp. DESS

Yupp eventually u won't be able to start, only push it...lol. Likely the DESS and the antenna parts to it need replaced. Been there done that on F3S model too!

Find a bike thief and ask him.

I certainly hope not.......or else it would be worse than useless.

Its worse than useless.

Easily defeated. It only serves to keep you from riding. For the uneducated casual thief, the key alone is more than sufficient.

Tell me more JC, is that even an option, would it it have to be done by a dealer,
and what would it cost ?

Requires a Megatech licence version of BUDS. Most dealers do not buy this level licence. There are a few that do and a few independent shops as it allows for much better diagnostics and settings. Its not cheap.

If we are not doing anything else, we charge $35 for a BUDS diagnostics report and can disable the DESS while in there. If we are doing any other work at the same time, I usually flip the toggle if asked free of charge. I never alter this setting unless the owner specifically asks for it.

DESS

Thanks JC, it would be nice to know you could get a key made without having it programmed
or cloned and peace of mind every time you put the key in and hit the starter the DESS is not
going to sand in the way.
I'll be asking my dealer about this.

I started a thread " D.E.S.S. KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! posted on 8/13/2015 it is 26 pages long with some very helpful info, and pictures. Like Bob said in his post # 4. Deanna

Dealer needs to use buds to let the computer re-learn the keys, should be a warranty item. Very simple procedure and should not take more than 30 minutes.

:agree: get the antenna/and the switch replaced. I have had it done twice( July, 2015, and again Aug. 2015 both were covered under warranty) on my 2014RTS-SE6 I also started a Thread.
