• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

backrest question

Does anybody know how the backrest is supposed to be "easily removed when not in use" and "easily click in to the sport rack" - as advertised in the accessories brochure?

It actually is remarkably easy to use. Pop up the seat, pull a lever, remove the rack, slide the backrest on and it just clicks into place and your off. Takes less than 30 seconds and is super easy to do. No effort at all.

Absolutely trouble free. I take off the back rest and put it into the trunk. the luggage rack slips on and it is all done in less than half a minute. You have to pop your seat to pull the release knob and everything just pops right off. (and back on)

I didn't see anybody mention: the backrest replaces the lid from the sport rack. I feel bad I have a "wasted" part, but I suppose people swap the backrest on and off...As easy as that is to do (10 seconds) I always just leave the backrest on.

Here're some nice photos:

Super fast swap, indeed! After this weekend's riding with the Wife on back, I pulled the backrest, and dropped the sport rack into it's place. So clean!! Oh! And, my Wife loves the backrest! To give you some idea, we rode together 75 miles on Saturday, and another 165 miles on Sunday. I think the stock seat, and backrest system will do just fine. :) Matter of fact; yesterday at lunch, I turned over 300 miles. I have not ridden in 30 years. You couldn't have told my body that. No soreness on Monday. My Wife felt it a bit. But, she's ready to go again. And, we are both, along with ZZ, looking forward to the Shiloh Battleground ride this coming Sunday. It's 100+ miles each way.

Also, with the sport rack plate in place, it's perfect for resting my helmet on after parking in the garage, etc,,,.

Like most owner's, I needed a defibrulator to get my heart started after paying $650 for the sportrack/backrest plus $150 for installation. As it turned out, it was a small price to pay for my wife's comfort and safety. While it is way overpriced, it is a nicely designed, slick working accessory that compliments the looks of the Spyder. I will repeat (probably for the third time) the design defect in the sport rack that blocks the rear tail light inside Torx screw that needs to be removed to change the bulb. It can be done with the sport rack on, but it is no picnic.

$150 installation???!!! That's what would have given me a stroke! Since, I had all the accessories added at delivery, there was no install charge.
