There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

It's awesome. You can adjust it back for a passenger or forward for you. Two bolts that you loosen to do that. He even gives you the handy dandy wrench for it. Mounting wasn't hard. It mounts to 4 screws under seat where passenger holds on to. Very sturdy n comfy. It's about $450.00 when I bought it. His name is Capt. Utopia makes the best driver's backrest, no doubt. They look "factory" and work very well. See them at this site: http://www.utpr.com/spyder.html
The picture of the yellow GS is my wife's '08 GS. On the RT page, the blsck RT and the closeup of the driver's backrest and passenger backrest are mine.
Do a search for Utopia on SpyderLovers and you'll see a ton of praise for them. They're also $225.00 - half the price of that other one mentioned above...

I agree utopia makes a great product. I have it on my RT. Love it but for the RS I wouldn't buy it cause its not movable like the other one. Im sure there are other options too. I bought it for my wife's RS cause we take the kids with us on rides n just move it back. Just my opinion....

I've got one as well and have to agree they are great. Mainly use mine just for the pillion but have used it a couple of times now on solo journeys and found it comfortable.
I think they actually look better on the Spyder than the standard Can-am backrests (that statement is probably going to upset people

Only thing I don't like is that the bolts don't have covers on the inside (see last photo). Haven't managed to find any covers large enough to cover these.
Best thing for me was the price because in New Zealand the Can-am dealers want NZ$1400 (US$1130) for official the luggage plate and back rest:yikes::yikes: This one was less than half that.

Thanx for the info...try using plastic dip for the exposed bolts its a rubberized coating that comes in colors

I agree... A nice little cover would be nice... If you plastidip wouldn't it come off when you loosen or tighten? To move it forward or back you have to loosen and tighten.

I have tried them with the covers on the inside. The wrench is a little tight with the cover on the bottom bolt, and the top cover would have to be removed every time it was readjusted. I will find some of the flexible black plastic covers that are thinner for the inside bolts and easier to remove and reinstall. Thanks for your input.

Yes that's what I found as well, the ones I did find that fitted were too bulky for this. A friend has suggested black anodised nuts but I've not found anyone in New Zealand who sells those. Very minor issue really as overall the backrest looks fantastic, certainly better in my eyes than to official Can-am one which always looks like it's travelling in the opposite direction to the rest of the bike.
