• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Back trunk not staying closed

Talked to tech who said there is no adjustment for the rear trunk closure. When properly closed and either locked or not, as soon as I hit a bump the warning indicator comes on and the trunk is no longer closed. It doesn't fly up but is open. Any ideas?

You could have the rear wrap panel (the one that goes around the trunk latch handles) or one of the 2 rear speaker boxes not lined up properly. When I reassembled mine once, I did not get the right speaker box in place properly and it hung up the trunk lid a little causing it to not latch fully.

The dealer is correct, there is no adjustment per say. However there is a little bit of "play" in the screws securing it which will give a tiny bit of adjustment.

Also you might try a little grease on the latch pins (located in the trunk lid) and the latch hook in the latch mechanism itself.

I've found that I have to "pop it" (the trunk) with the palm of my hand after I have closed it. Might give that a shot.

When I first got mine, I'd close it and then I could lift it right up. I asked the tech and he said there's nothing he could do, just slam it. So that's what I do. I slam it shut and then try to lift it from the edge. But I've never had it pop open after confirming it was closed.

There is an adjustment for the rear trunk latch. Have your dealer look up Warranty Bulletin 2011-8.

Any chance of showing the bulletin? I had mine apart and off the spyder and saw no adjustment other than to the cable itself (kind of like the break cable adjustment on a bicycle) e.g. the cable adjustment might not allow the hooks to close fully, but that is the only adjustment I saw?

I have no link and no way to post the PDF. I'd suggest you see your dealer. They can look it up in the BRP knowledge base or in their file. They may even print you a copy if you ask nicely. Note that lack of proper lubrication is the most common reason the trunks don't latch. Overfilling or weatherstripping problems are also factors.

I have also had similar experience with the rear trunk not latching. If your problem is non-mechanical (needs adjusting), I suggest the following:

:ani29:: I always grasp the trunk lid right over the latch. A gentle, but firm attempt at closing usually does the trick.

:ani29:: If you use to much force, the trunk lid will just rebound up from air pressure within or bouncing off the latch mechanism.

:ani29:: Once it locks, I always try to open it by lifting up on the lid--just to make sure of a good "lock".

:ani29:: I don't lock the lid since I don't like fidgeting around with the key when I dismount the :spyder2:.

Hope these suggestions help for those not needing mechanical adjustment.

Mine was doing this. What I did was clean the trunk seal really well. Apply silicone to the seal and lub the latches. Mine now closes and stays closed.

A BIG THANK YOU to [email protected] for this bulletin, 2011-8 Spyder RT Rear Top Storage Compartment Cover Adjustment.

So there is really no adjustment per say. The PDF has you enlarging the screw holes for the latch to give you an adjustment!

Not sure this will always fix it though. Lateral movement of the latch seems like not the problem. The latch or latch pin on the lid needs to move closer to each other. I have to semi-slam mine shut because the latch hook fingers wont fully grab the pins on the lid and allow the latch fingers to lock around them. I had better luck with the first part of the procedure which was to push the rear panel in closer. I noticed it was rubbing a little on the lid and did this before even seeing these instructions. I also noticed my right my speaker boxe was not fully seated and causing the rear panel side to bulge out a little again interfering with the lid on the side.

Lubing the latch and pin a little helped too.

While I was having my right saddle bag replaced I mentioned again this problem. The tech noticed that the bar that unlatches the trunk lid was very sensitive. He attached a small spring to provide more tension and the problem has been solved. The issue is you need all of the Tupperware in back removed to get to it. I couldn't ride more than 10 minutes before the lid would pop before. I've gone a fe hundreds miles since the spring was installed with no problems.

For me, the issue is really the orange warning that appears on the dash. I to will have the warning appear after going over a bump, and I know that the door is not open, just unlatched. I am not that worried about stuff falling out, I just want the warning to stop. Is there a way to bypass the sensor so that the warning goes away?
