Although the doc and PT cleared her to ride about four weeks ago, which would have been about four weeks after her TKR surgery, Nancy had not done so. Last weekend she rode for the first time out at the Gilmore event, basically using her Spyder as a pit bike between our trailer in the campground, and the museum gas station where she worked registration. Maybe a half dozen trips of 1/4 mile each. Last night we rode a couple miles to the local Taco bell car cruise and then lfrom there for ice cream. Maybe ten miles this time. Better, but still no test.
This morning we left bright and early and rode 100 miles to the Grattan Raceway for the AHRMA road races. She won't let me race any more, but she still likes to go to the races. She had absolutely no trouble with that 100 mile jaunt. After a day on her feet at the track, and the warmest temps we've had all year, we did the 100 miles home. About half way she was in a lot of pain, but she made the journey. I think she could have done 200-250 in the morning when she was fresh, but she won't be up to 500 mile days for a while. Still, she's back in the saddle...
It is great to see Nancy riding and enjoying her Spyder again. I was beginning to get worried. Now to keep at it until those muscles stretch the rest of the way and she has some endurance. I'm a bit sad that I may not get to ride the Spyder too often now (it was fun while it lasted), but I enjoy riding with her so much that it is not much of a burden. Besides, she hinted at relaxing the "One-in, One-out" rule when I was negotiating about another old bike today. Could there be a #24 in the works?
