Back fires : Evo air filter and Two brother exhaust

Hi

I did just some mods this we.
Evo air filter + O2 sensor and dual two brother exhaust.

Wanted to hear the sound of it ....:helpsmilie: So many back fires very impressive, my Spyder seems to be a dragster ...:gaah:
I think I got too much air in my machine. Its apen at 1400 RPM.
What shoud I do ? Replace the original O2 sensor ?
Add the 2 brother juice box ? I did not want to go back to the Can Am air filter but it is maybe the only solution ?
When I did my mods, the battery was off of course. Dont understand where is my Mystake. Need your help guys, cause I have a long reide to do to go to the first european Spyder homecoming in Austria in May. did you heared about it in the States ?

When my black widow won't be naked anymore, will post some photos.

PS : sorry for my english.

I don't think this post will last long here but I'd say you're running lean. If you're sure you have no exhaust gasket leaks then my suggestion would be to add fuel (Juice Box or equivilant).

Sorry, where should I post my question in the forum ?
Thanks for your answer, will add the SB asap

Apply update #2 and most of this if not all of it should go away. Test by plugging up the evap can vent tube (the upside down "U" shaped one) with a bolt and hose clamp.

This post should go in the Spyder Shop Talk forum but I suspect Lamont will move it there for you.

When you improve intake and exhaust flow you will always lean the fuel mixture. Some fuel systems can compensate for this but many can't (or won't) and this includes the Spyder.

All engines these days come from the factory running about as lean as they can stand so it doesn't take much modification to the intake/exhaust to put them over the limit.

Not only will a JB or similar fuel modification system (most likely) solve your backfiring issue, it will allow you to richen the mixture to improve fuel mileage and performance as well.

That backfiring will put your muffler in an early grave if you don't get it fixed.

I would agree with this if the problem came naturally or with no known cause. But having no problems before the intake/exhaust mods coupled with the fact that these mods will have this exact effect, if you do not add fuel, and I would say the chances are unlikely that the evap is causing this.

Still, it is very easy to eliminate the evap and know for sure.

canisterectemy most are doing is to run hose out of gas tank to rear and plug up the hose going to throttle body, right?

yesterday was pretty hot and i got some serious steam coming out of that hose from gas tank. it's not dripping but a lot of vapors coming out.

I think this is the consensus fix. That is what I did to mine. Have never noticed anything coming out of it, but then I never look either! :yikes:

Ok, wher can I find the post talking about the canisterectemy ?
Maybe I have a problem with my fuel filter ? I got 9300 miles. Should I change it.
Thanks.

I was running stock filter and Hindle last fall when I gotten the 1st update. No immediate problem but the temp is also on the cooler side and I rode no more than a few times before putting it away for the winter. Added Evo filter over winter and took it out for a nice long burp on a hot spring day and it started to spit and backfire. Guessing the extra air and hotter temp just pushed it over the edge. No time to get the 2nd update done so I decided to plug up the evap tube to see if it makes a difference. Viola ... an immediate improvement and no more hesistation and eliminated 98% of the backfiring. Imma gonna ride with that plug until I have time to get the bike in for that 2nd update.

most likely, you need more fuel. leaky exhaust pipe can cause it too but you running too lean it seems. canisterectemy is probably not going to fix the backfiring but still may be a good idea.

i did try a gadget from some company selling on ebay and it worked pretty good even thou it was so over-priced(60 bucks) for what it was made of but what isn't on spyder? it tricks spyder into thinking it's colder and feeds more fuel and it is adjustable and switchable. what i used to do was, turn it off when i get on the freeway to save fuel. it burned alot of fuel but it worked very well. i think i had better acceleration with that thing than power commander i have now.

other than that, juice box is only choice for now. power commander for spyder is not ready yet.

thanks guy. :2thumbs:
have to go to work this night in my hospital.... SO can't work on my Spyder tonight... I'll read your posts between two patients in the operative room :coffee:

Unless you've gotten some pretty bad fuel you should not need to change the fuel filter. The Canisterectomy is in the "How Too" forum I believe.

Good advice so far from all.

To be on the safe side I would get the updates, possibly do the cansiterectomy, check your Y-pipe gaskets (the BRP ones blow very easy) and install a juice box or the fuel pressure mod from Evoluzione.

Juice box works pretty well and is easy to install.

The gaskets may not have been the original problem but the backfiring will certainly make them go away more quickly.
