• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Avoiding a Freak Out

Thanks to SL Forum I avoided freaking out today  I went for a 75mi ride all was good did some twistys practicing my control and headed for my favorite gas station to fill up. All done turn the key and get the " Engine overheated " warning followed by the " Limp Home" mode upon restart. Well I have read several threads on this and blipped the throttle shut if off and restarted codes gone ( but not forgotten).

Now the question is Where does it get that info for the engine overheated condition. My digital gauge was at 5 bars( 1/2) as it had been all ride at restart. No indication of over heating. I know about the heat soak so there must be another sensor in the engine separate from the gauge sensor correct? In 300mi I have had two stalls at stop signs ( I read about this common break in issue too  ) and now this issue. My Cruise control never worked (switch is on order for 2 weeks a little excessive since I can buy stuff from Canada on ebay and get it next day or 5 days at most.) and I have boogers inside my gauge lens (on order too) the bloom is beginning to fall off the rose.....

new Spyder

Welcome to SL and don't worry, a few little things are bound to pop up on any kind of new vehicle.

Keep your dealer in the loop and ask questions. Our Spyders are pretty sophisticated and are bound to create some questions. I have not had the specific things you've experienced. Two years ago, the big deals were DHS, or what ever the dreaded steering thing was and I also had the auto system for the air bag go nuts. Simple solutions, handled easily by the BUDS system and a good mechanic. Other than those two, the still common oil leak from the water pump was lurking, as was the throttle body item, which had a recall. In 32.000 miles since Aug 20, 2011, that's it for me. The Spyder is amazingly demanding and if any item was not properly reviewed on the initial computer set up, problems can arise. I think most dealers have learned that lesson and apparently the basket full of odd messages received these days is way down. Don't worry, you've made a good choioce and it will serve you well.

Check your coolant level.
I plan on it when it is cooled before the next flight. But assuming it is OK ( as the gauge was at normal temp) the question still stands. What could be the source of the over temp warning or more exactly WHAT SENSOR SENDS THE SIGNAL?

Same sensor that feeds the gauge feeds the cluster, as far as I know. Are you sure the warning wasn't for high intake air temperature?

Did you pull up the code???
:banghead: Awwman I been waiting for one to show and I forgot to push the buttons. My parts came in and I dropped it off and talked to the service manager about it. He said " That code is not what it appears to be some of the time. It is a voltage drop and tied to limp home mode and BRP does not know why it happens but they know about it.. "

Interesting! It explains a few strange things that people have reported.

I have had the P0127 High Intake Air Temp fault several times and it doesn't put you into Limp mode. P0217 which relates to high coolant temp does put you in Limp Mode but it is "passive" limp mode which doesn't restrict speed

DDOOHH!! I wish you guys had said that earlier; I'm going to have an awful time fishing that "special package" I sent to BRP this morning; outta the mail drop box! :joke:

Well got the cruise fixed ( and love it the drive by wire is very sensitive and difficult to keep a steady speed for me) and the lens too. Dealer said he had never seen a lens with whatever it was in it , it wasn't water looked like super glue. Now it supposed to rain for 7 days.....again. River is flooding nearby and Chantal is headed this way geeze can't get a break. All this rain started the day after I bought my RT I have had only 3 good days in 3 weeks ( and got drenched on the way home from the dealer today too).:banghead:

The ambient Temp sensor

Check the Ambient temp sensor mine recorded 122 degrees (:opps:twice) at the display i took a pic and showed it to the dealer and they replaced the sensor. i have not have the problem repeat after that.

Check it out.
