Aux Audio wire

Ok so taking a closer look under the Tupperware I found
a 3.5mm Audio cable tied off to the right side of the fuel tank
and a 12V lead behind the fuel tank. After checking them out
plunging the Audio cable in to a source it plays thru the radio
Aux, and the 12V power supply activates with key and radio.
It seems to me that BRP is reading SL and doing away with
the aftermarket wiring to the radio in order to hook up Blue Tooth
headsets. Has anyone else came across this on their new 2014 RT
I would like to know your thoughts on this what’s it for.20140224_182200_April Rain Dr_resized.jpg20140224_182228_April Rain Dr_resized.jpg20140224_182206_April Rain Dr_resized.jpg

Are their also power, and audio ports in the trunk as well? :dontknow: (There should be...)
I would hazard the guess, that they hook into those two sources... ;)

GPS connections. If I am right it will play and override every mode (Radio, Aux, etc). It will be mono as well, left will play on both sides and right is just gone.
Cannot be used for bluetooth dongle because it is input not output.
BRP makes a kit for hooking up Bluetooth. No need to build a cable. It's just cheaper.

This is based on what I know about the 2013's and may not apply to your 2014.

The GPS connection on the 2013 does not override all the other modes, it is separate and it is stereo.

My GPS is factory installed on my 2013 and interrupts all the other modes when it has something to say and is only mono on the dash speakers. This is the same for all prior years as well.

Pretty sure its for the BRP GPS and on my 2011 it over rode any other source to get you the directions . Not sure about the 2014s but would assume it does the same .

I misunderstood your original post, thought you meant that you could only see the GPS, you are also correct that the GPS instructions will come through when listening to any other source. I heard my music in stereo though.

Yes you will get music out of all 4 speakers but it is not in stereo. It is only 1 of the 2 channels. May I suggest you get a stereo test mp3 off of the internet and test it. That's what I and others have done and everyone so far it has been mono. If yours is actually stereo that would be an interesting fact to know.

Looks like they may have gotten rid of the special GPS adapter harness and added those two connectors directly into the radio harness. See my project posting here: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...n-BRP-GPS-Part-1&p=767409&posted=1#post767409

It's mono on 2013 and below as everyone has said. If it is now stereo for the 14's then that would eliminate the BT dongle cable UNLESS you also want the BRP GPS setup. I kind of doubt it though. If it is stereo I woulkd hook the Sena SM10 there and if you also want GPS, you can run the GPS audio to the AUX on the Sena SM10. That will also override music.

That is the input to the radio from the GPS. It is not an output so the Sena SM10 will not work connected to it.

OK so now I have a question.

Is the harness from the radio to the 3.5mm jack built on all 2013's and below? e.g. if I remove my panels I should find a 3.5mm jack near the tank to hook an input source to?

I am thinking of a DIY GPS and need to know what I have to wire up. The other recent posts don't state how they wired to the radio so it makes me assume that cable is there already?

The GPS connects to RDO 1 through a sub connector in the main radio harness on 2013s and earlier and requires a harness that comes in the kit or can be bought separately (I think). The Garmin kit will plug into that harness. It appears that the 2014s no longer need the extra harness and the Garmin kit will plug directly in.

In bracket kit

The harness you need for 2013 and earlier is pictured on the box.

The two wire connector is the power and ground connection for the GPS. The 3.5 plug is connected to the audio cable on the GPS harness. The power cable that comes with the GPS mounting kit is not compatible to the 2014. My dealer said the GPS mounting kit for the 2014 isn't available yet.

Isnt this the side that goes to the GPS? Not the radio side?
There is no way that cable will reach the radio so there must be another harness needed or is already on the bike?

Bob

The 10 pin plugs into a harness at the right rear, just under the passenger handle. The 3.5 plugs into the GPS harness which is ran down the right side from the handlebar to just past the gas tank.

That's the radio end and there is lots of cable on the garmin mount.
