• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

After getting 8400 miles out of the OEM rear tire I have decided to switch to an automotive tire. I have recently installed a Falken VR rated tire that is a much harder compound and more resistant to heat damage. I have a couple questions for you riders whom have switched over. What pressure do you run compared to the recommended pressure on the tire? Have you noticed any handling issues? Lastly, how many miles do you have on the tire?

CAR TIRE FOR REAR

Yo Otter, I have them and it depends on how many plies your tire has ......ie.the more plies , the stiffer the side walls generally speaking......the stiffer the side walls the less air pressure needed to keep rim off the pavement so to speak .....I am going with 23 lbs cold, riding solo......It increases after about 3 miles or so....Mike .....see you at Spyderquest............I plan to bring RARE and Attractive GOODIES.......:thumbup:
 
I ran a Falken 912 for 8000 miles and 26 psi...
Ir did last an extra thousand more than the OEM Kenda...
I'm trying a Kumho now, and 25 psi...
 
Hi Chad, I've had very good luck with my Michelin Hydroedge and now have about 27,000 miles on it. I'm carrying about 23 lbs. in it and handling is great and it is wearing absolutely perfectly all the way acroos the tire. I think I can get another 3,000 miles on it before I'll need to change it.:ohyea:

BTW I sent you a PM last week about going on a ride up to the windmill farm near Lowville. Don went with us and it was a great ride and mostly good weather except humid as all get out. We did hit rain just as we got into Truxton, so we put the rain suits on and ran out of it before we got home. There are something like 196 wind mills up there now......a whole lot more than the last time we were there.

Hi Bob,

Your right it is no longer available, but when I heard that, I got in touch with Cole Muffler/Mavis Tire in Cortland where I bought the first one. They were able to get me "the very last one in the warehouse" ......their words. :dontknow: So I'm good for at least another year or so, after that who knows maybe we'll have to replace our "old faithful". I really do love the bike and hate to think about getting rid of it. Maybe we'll just retire her and put her on a pedestall in the garage!:roflblack::ohyea::yes::yes:
 
I have the Michelin Hydroedge. I have put about 5000 miles on it. It still looks new. I run 26 lbs in it. Can't tell any difference in handling.

replaced mine at around 9000 have just over 19000 on it, :yes:hoping to get another 10 out of it at least who know maybe 20? did notice I didn't hydroplane across 2 lanes in the rain like I did with the Kenda :yikes:
 
Tires

Had to replace my rear tire at 15,300. Went with factory replacement as we were on a US trip and depended on dealer. My front tires have 19,700 on the now and look brand new! Guess I am fortunate.
BTW we just took a 6 week 9,611 Mile ride from Oregon to PA, etc. Wonderful trip w/no Spyder problems for either of us. We love our bikes!!!!
 
Don't know..!!

our RS has 8,500 miles on the oem Kenda and still looks new. By the time I need a new one there may be some new ones to choose from. I do wonder about running stiffer rears than fronts. Not on a spyder but did have some problems doing that..:dontknow:

I was out exploring the state parks of NY with the kids when the message came in, by the time I got it, I was too late. I was very bummed that I missed the ride. I will be getting a little free time again soon and would like to ride state rt 30 from 17 to the end up above the adirondacks. I hear it is a great ride, but I will have to plan that as an overnight trip. I will keep you posted. BTW, what is the recommended tire pressure for your tire?

Rear Tire

I replaced the OEM rear tire at 11,200 miles with a Nitto NT450 just before my trip to Spyderfest in April. Have 6000 miles on it...looks new...running 25 PSI.

Funny you should mention that........because that was my first thought. I know of a Harley rider that kept his new Harley in his family room and even decorated it for Christmas. I often accused him of putting "Easy Rider" in the DVR and sitting on his Harley while watching it......he hardly ever rode it for real. Now the poor Harley sits in his garage and has not been ridden for 2 or 3 years except to have it inspected. He keeps it registered every year also...which I find kind of strange.:dontknow:
In answer to your question though Bob, I think she would be very "un" receptive to that idea. I could bring up the idea of decorating it for Christmas......she loves decorating.....hmmmm.:roflblack:
 
It would probably make for a comfortable perch from which you guys could enjoy a movie together... :2thumbs: (Easy rider??)
I just don't know why they don't understand our taste in decor any better than they do! :D

I'm sure Bob will answer, but since I also have the same tire ......I have 7500 + and it looks very even on wear , think it can go to 20,000 +......23 lbs air...Mike :2excited:
 
Wow, I wish that Hydroedge was still being made......the Spyder world drastically needs a tire that can go 30,000 miles. The rear tire situation is making/breaking us right now...... 8000 miles on a tire is absurd....
