• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

automatic transmission upshifting on it's own

We have a 2014 st with auto trans. Occasionally it will upshift on it's own without any input from the rider. Sometimes it upshifts one gear, sometimes it shifts twice going thru 2 gears. Seems like it does it only on longer rides.

Anyone one experienced this? Or have any ideas? Dealer never heard of this type of problem.

So that's where the experimental tranny is. :yikes: I think it's time to visit the dealer. Be prepared to hear, "never heard of this before" Tom :spyder:

First make sure you or one of your accessories are not interacting with shift lever somehow. If not it may be time to plug it into BUDS and test the action of the shifter paddle switch.

Tough one...

Only thing that comes to mind is a problem with the paddle shifter. Trip to the dealer may be the best way to find out...

Seen This Before

Actually, I've witnessed this a few different times on my 2013 RTL, but only in first gear. These were times when I was going down a hill slowly (like in a park with a posted slow speed limit) and was using the tranny to maintain a slow speed instead of the brake. In this case the Spyder would upshift to second on it's own. Seems like the shifter sensed that it was in too low a gear, and took matters into it's own hands, with no input from me.

I've never seen this happen in any other gear, but then I've never really rev'ed it that high in other gears. Still, given what I've observed, I'd speculate that there must actually be some sort of mechanism built in that causes the electronic trans to upshift if the RPM's get too high. I'm not inclined to test that theory in any gear higher than first, and with no throttle, however. :sour:

Given this, it could be that the OP has a sensor that is out of whack. If this happens within the normal RPM range, there is definitely some sort of problem.

Spyder with SE will downshift on its own. Have never heard of an automatic upshift. I think a trip to the dealer is in order.

Let us know what happens.

Aggree it has to be accidental something fyi the lever can be bumped with the palm or pulled from the back (finger under the downshift) side fyi i did test this on mine but i was trying. Get to dealer & find out!

I wasn't there but I still care! POW /MIA VETS

A false signal from the paddles makes sense to me.

I drive a 2014 rt and seems like this happens on mine. I always write it off as I was watching traffic and up shifted it myself not thinking about it. Hope to hear if others feel they do the same, it just kind of becomes automatic to click paddle up.

SpyderAnn01;115 Just another reason why I love the simplicity of my manual tranny.[/QUOTE said:
I find it very hard on a manual to be smoking and drinking a beer at the same time.

Well you are the first to say you have the same problem.

Here is were it is a SAFETY issue. You are in the middle of a fast turn, close to the envelope of the spyder's capability, the machine upshifts causing you to lose the line your on and cross over the center line or go off the pavement.

Not sure how shifting up would do that. Downshifting maybe.

If cornering hard and power turning if his bike up shifts it could be a big problem.
I have never had it happen in a power cornering situation. I realy think mine is me upshifting automatically.
I ride with my thumb on shift paddle. Even thought it sure seams like it did it on its own.
