• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Auto Downshifting Problems?

I've got a 2011 RT-Limited and when I have to come to a stop relatively quickly or slow down waiting for a green arrow to come on, the auto downshifting doesn't always want to kick in. Anyone else have these problems?

Yeah, usually at idle. I wouldn't care about it and just manually downshift, but a couple times when I didn't look at what gear I was in, I went to take off again and it was still in 4th or 3rd and got no traction as I tried to squeeze through a hole in oncoming traffic so it made for an interesting time...

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that some one else had that problem and I think it turned out to be low on oil. As stated I'm not sure but a simple proper oil check may let you know.

I'll do that and get back to you. Ironically, the bike is at the dealership getting a service today...:)

The oil level was mentioned previously as a possible culprit. Under normal operation, the semi will shift down by itself at approx. 2500 rpms. A quick stop or panic stop may leave it in the gear you were driving in.

Holding the throttle open & LOW or "OLD" oil can be two causes

Correct, if you don't completely let off the throttle, that can prevent it from Auto-downshifting. Also, having either low oil, or "old" oil can cause this issue as well. "Old" meaning you've gone over the usable lifespan of the oil, and its beginning to break down. Also, clogged or damaged Filters can cause the issue as well.

These are two known causes besides having issues with the selinoid (sp?). Its important, when checking the oil level, that its done properly and by the book, meaning checking the oil AFTER A RIDE, once the engine is up to operating temperature, not just starting it up & letting it idle for a few minutes.

Thanks guys. Oil was good and it might have just been me keeping the throttle goosed a bit as I decelerated. As long as I'm tracking on throttle position as I approach stops, it seems fine.

I had this same problem and it was shutting down the engine when I came to a stop. It got to where it was happening 85% of my stops. :banghead:
I changed my oil and filters to Amsoil and it hasn't done it since.

Since I purchased my 2010 RT pre-owned, I had no clue of the RT's history and what oil was being use or when it was last changed. :dontknow:
