• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not at those prices they are $150-200 coats. I don't mind used you would not believe all the almost new stuff I have picked up at Goodwill..including my leather jacket. It is good I live in an area that has a lot of rich people living here in Myrtle Beach. Got my wife's leather jacket and boots there too. We have a lot of rich bikers around here :roflblack:

Modular isn't much better than my 3/4. I have clip in jaw pieces for mine but they won't hold up in a crash they are more for winter anti fog purposes. It is just so hot around here in the summer but I have been thinking about a full face my self for cooler weather and night time.

Thank you for posting this and we hope others will read and learn.

I used to worked at a shipyard as the Safety officer and I know how important the PPE personnel protection equipment. People who are injured and not wearing PPE the insurance will not cover them.

Safety gears are mandatory in my book while riding and its not against my FREEDOM.

I have the Caliber pants, and live in west Texas with some 100+ days, on all but the hottest days they are comfortable to ride in (not over jeans). Winter over jeans are good for all but coldest days.

I use the GMAX too....same helmet except mine is white. I like it ok for warm and for cold---cold being 55 or more....less than 55, I don't care to ride.

Given that....and if modular are no good...then what is one to do?????

I know....admit defeat and stick with what I have!;)

Mine is silver.I have the chin bars as I showed in the vid but you have to put them on with the helmet on no way to get my head into it with them on. Not that big an issue and those with a balaclava make cold riding comfortable. You can get good modular like I posted but most "affordable" ones are little more protection than a 3/4 because they will pop up. I like the Nolan lock up one that is another issue most do not have a up lock so if you are riding with them up on a hot day they may pop down. Then there is the extra resistance with them up. I guess they may be a bit better than a 3/4 but if you want safety full face is the way to go. :thumbup:

Some modulars do have locking systems and are cleared to race in. My Shark cost a lot, but If I never have to use it except to my head warm in the winter, it is a good deal for me.
Even with the ones that do not lock, there a decent chance of the bar staying down in a crash. The 3/4, of course, no coverage.
To each their own of course.

I always wore 3/4, jets even Cromwell puddin basin... Till a friend of mine on a 1916 Sunbeam went into a tank slapping in front of me, crashed at 20mph and died... I have a modular Nolan on my RT and a full face on my bikes. It came handy a few months ago when I lost my Norton on some gravels (again around 20mph):

I have a Full Face Arai Defiant Helmet and we ride in some 100 plus days in the Sacramento Area. This helmet has some incredible ventilation and we stay pretty cool in the Summer and warm now. This is DOT and Snell approved for the safest Helmet you can buy.....A little pricey though!

:yikes: OK you convinced me I bought myself an early Christmas present that should allow more cold weather riding too :thumbup: It matches my other helmet in color(and my Spyder). It gets high marks in all the reviews I read and has steel locking pins. It has to be a little better.

These articles are all well and good. The first one is just people defending their choice and trying to rationalize the fact that the helmet they chose may not be that safe, but nobody can prove them wrong. I think that it is safe to conclude that a modular helmet is safer than no helmet. Heck we even have some people on this board trying to rationalize their decision to wear no helmet at all. To me there is only one reason to wear a helmet, SAFTEY! I believe that a helmet that doesn't come apart, and has a proven safety record, and covers my whole head is the right choice for me. That is why I paid the price for ARAI. Very comfortable, very well vented for comfort, and it looks good. Snell certified ,and worn by over half of all Formula 1 drivers, and many in MOTO GP. That way the only thing I have to justify is the price!

Without a doubt besides being a cute young lady she is one gutsy lady. You can only think you know how it must have hurt to have been her body. But having experienced some pain during my years I cannot even come close to what she endured through out the whole ordeal.

The great thing about her seems to be her overall attitude towards the event. She was going to beat it and she did it.

You are absolutely right. The last link is in a part of that forum that discusses crashes and results including gear used. Anecdotal evidence is that any helmet can fail in the proper circumstances and ATGATT, while useful, is no guarantee .Will it decrease injury and fatalities? Absolutely. It is all going to depend mostly on speed at the time of the wreck and objects encountered during the next few seconds.
