• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Around Lake Michigan

Looking for input from our Michigan and Wisconsin Spyderlovers. I want to take a trip around Lake Michigan - starting in Chicago and going into Michigan then traveling close to the lake then North and west to Wisconsin and ending up in Door County for a couple of days , then back to Chicago. Figured it will take 3-4 days to get to Door County-depending on the sights. Any recommendations about Route, sights to see and accommodations would be greatly appreciated.:doorag:

Lake shore drive from Holland up the coast, then North Scenic drive, South Scenic drive to Silver Lake, South Lakeshore from Silver Lake to outskirts of Ludington, 22 from Manistee to Traverse city is great, then 199 (the tunnel of trees) from Harbor Springs to cross village.
Stop in at Legs Inn for some great views and food.

:agree: I'd like to hear about this, too, if it comes to pass. I'm thinking of doing "around Lake Superior" sometime in the next couple years.

Thanks for the info- sounds great- I'll keep everyone posted- I'm trying to do Lake Michigan by the Middle of July. Prairie Spyder, that's one I'd love to do too.

I've done this trip twice. Take your time so that you can check out the many small towns along the way, hug the lake as close and as often as you can, enjoy the trip across the Mackinac Bridge, spend a day on Mackinac Island, and as the summer season gears up you'll need to look for and secure a room for the night early enough in the day to find one. Finally, bring your wallet. Things aren't cheap along the way but are well worth the cost. If you do it right it will be a memorable trip that you"ll likely want to do again.

Thanks, once again Wallet and Spyder are in the same sentence-HAHA. thanks for the advice I'm sure it will be a memorable trip- I'll post pix!

Go to www.michigan.org. There is a tab "Stay" that lists most all accommodations by city. Great tool I've used extensively. Once you cross The Bridge to the UP and start west scenery is beautiful but cities don't have much to offer.

If you can find the time the Dune rides at, Silver Lake are great. Also stopping in Ludington for some smoked whitefish is worth it. A friend and I are thinking about making a trip along Lake Michigan, the last week in July. Going from Northern Indiana to the UP and back.

The more people I talk to about the trip, people say the time to go is at the end of July thru Sept- a big reason is because the black flys won't be as bad!?:hun: Indyron, -michigan.org is a great site-thanks
Culpjp- I'm still not sure of my dates- please pm me if you go, maybe I can make part of the run with you guys- thanks for all the info.

A quick shout out and THANKS to Chupaca- cause he sent me info on how to make a luggage rack for my ST-S, it will make carrying luggage a heck of a lot easier, ONCE AGAIN this Spyderlovers forum and the people on it are GREAT.
Everyone, ride safe this summer

You won't see much of the lake on the trip other then the northern shore when heading east and the bridge. You might see more if you take the shore road from Traver city. for awhile anyway.......
