Are Top Vents on RTs Functional?

Vertika makes air scoops for the top vents on RTs. Question is, are these vents really functional or mostly for looks?

Looks like a air induction scoop. Perhaps it works well while riding. Does it cool your tupperware.?

I have them and they work nicely, I just changed over to the Kewl metal air system and they push a bunch of air into that area, nice cool scooped air.

All kidding aside at speed they might cool thing a bit under the Tupperware....

I believe this has already been addressed. Are these air scoops for the engine compartment under the lights?

Can you give us an update on your switch controlled heat extraction project? Does this involved some kind of fan ventilation?

Yes they are VERY functional. My temp dropped two to three bars on the digital gauge after I had them installed. Gotta love those babies in chrome!

The vents let heat out. The other lets cool air in that helps with temp under tubberware.

Exactly...specifically for the right side of the RT. Going slow...probably be a few weeks. It won't be spectacular, but hopefully functional.

We added the Vertika intakes to my wife's 2010 RT back in the latter part of 2009 to address the toasted foot problem. They sure looked nice but in our opinion did nothing to solve the hot air problem. They are supposed to be a 'ram air' device to push air down through the intakes and out of the lower vents and they did that job... but it just moved more hot air out of the right side onto the right leg and foot. We then went to the Avon rubber vent deflector, then to a home made vent deflector (cookie sheet) and finally to the Spyder Pops/Baker Air Wings combination that is what she now uses on her 2012 RT.

They look good but $900 of look good isn't worth it.

You can certainly feel warm air coming out from those vents, and based on their position, I would guess that was the intent, but that got me to thinking... With the vent being directly behind the air deflector, wouldn't that create a high pressure area at speed? It seems that they would vent better either with the new adjustable deflectors, or simply removing the fixed ones...

I removed the air deflectors on the side by the windshield and it "seems" like the air on the right side is not as hot as it could be. I'll put the deflectors back on when it gets cold enough as i ride year-round.

But I have been thinking of things to adapt to make an air scoop that will cover (at least partially) where the upper air vent is. I saw a Harley with a chrome cover on his stock air cleaner. What made it interesting was that metal tabs about 1" were bent behind the air intake/cleaner. If I can figure out where he got it I might give it a try.

I don't know if your question has been answered, but the answer is yes. I just called Vertika and was told they DO fit the 2013 RTS.
