Are these Tires too old?

I was changing out my brakes this weekend and while the tires were off I saw the DOM of my tires! 2010! These are the OEM tires. I'm the second owner of a 2011 Spyder RT that has 10,000miles. (PS. The rear brake pads were the only ones that NEEDED replacement... but I did all three because I already bought the set)

The tires look fine and everything has been garage kept but I was raised with motorcycle tires aging out after 6 years... These tires are darn near 15 years old but I have tons of tread left and I don't see visual cracks, etc.

Thoughts?

I would not run 15 year old tires on any vehicle. Just not worth the risk.

If the tires are OEM (Kenda) you would be wise to replace them asap! Kenda tires are probably the poorest choice - even when brand new, let alone 15 yrs old!
Search the scores of threads on this site for a complete understanding of why so many of us have moved to CAR tires for better handling and wear.

I would replaced them as well! Heck, I just replaced the RT-622 (new to me) trailer tires and they where from 2019… and they looked pretty much new.

Kenda Kanine KR20 would be my choice.

Apparent wear does not count for everything. Age has to be considered. Tires age like everything else. I don't drive the farm truck enough to need to replace the tires, but they get replaced around 6 or 7 years old. I don't want a deteriorated tire when I am towing several tons of hay on a trailer. Sometimes I can use the best looking truck tires on one of the trailers that never goes on the highway. A blowout at 30 MPH on a dirt lane is not a major problem. A blowout at 55 MPH with a loaded trailer on the highway could be a major problem. I would not use 15 year old tires, and for sure not when there is very little between you and the pavement.

I am glad you are replacing the 15 year old tires. I learned that hard lesson some years ago.

I’d be changing them ASAP. I really prefer the Kenda Kanines. I’ve got 10k miles on mine & am probably good for at least another 10K.

I’m not a fan of car tires… but that’s a debate I won’t get into.

I see that you are not happy with car tires (which the Kenda's are as well). Just curious as to how many, and which 'Car' tire's you've tried that did not work out for you?
