• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Apple Car Play Compensation

It was for me. 2.1.1 was the version that enabled ACP. Later that day when I checked for updates again, 2.1.0 was listed as an "update" but it did not call out ACP as a feature so I presume this is the same firmware as the bike shipped with.

Fortunately I took pictures during this ordeal :)

Here's the 2.1.1. release that enabled ACP:

And then later in the day, this version showed up (2.1.0) and is the one that removed ACP. I had the opportunity to not install 2.1.0 but figured they released this due to bugs in 2.1.1 and I let it do the install knowing that I would lose ACP again.

Yep, I did the same thing for the same reason(s)... darn it!!!!

Just got a survey from BRP about features they could include on the bike/digital dash. In the comments I said I just want the ACP I paid for, the rest of these things are superfluous. Just give me what I already paid for and you can add other stuff later.

Did you get the survey via email or letter?

It came via e-mail. Asked about stuff like being able to track others in a group ride on the map, being able to plot your route in advance, etc. I said those are all well and good, but you can't even get ACP working. Let's not put the cart before the horse here. Concentrate on getting ACP out then you can play with all this other fancy stuff that I don't care about at all.

There are many of us that bought into the BRP Connect fiasco in 2018. We were offered nothing but silence from BRP. The dealer network couldn't fix anything as they were apparently in the dark also. If there was (real) competition in a reverse trike configuration, BRP would need to actually hire an in-house software contingent instead of outsourcing the project. It must be outsourced, with incompetent oversight, to end up with 6 years and counting of trying to implement an on-board system.

ACP may never work just like the other app, it doesn’t take this long to write code. I don’t think it will ever work. I got the survey by email and complained about ACP but I don’t really think they give a rats ass what we think .

As a retired software developer I have no trouble believing it could take this long or longer.

Google says Apple Carplay was written using Swift and Objective-C.
Swift is a language that Apple created about 10 years ago, so since this appears to be BRP's first Carplay integration, the learning curve would have been pretty steep.

I also found the Apple Developer Support site for Carplay:

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/carplay

And it appears for navigation functions, Carplay requires using the MapKit API from Apple, something more to become familiar with:

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/mapkit

So I'll keep using my Garmin Zumo XT GPS for now, until BRP can get all their (software) ducks in a row.

Writing *apps* that work with CarPlay is one thing and would require Swift, access to APIs, etc. CarPlay itself is just a remote display protocol for the most part. They've demoed it working for what, 9 months now? I had it back in April during their very short release window before it got pulled. It worked fine (not saying there weren't deeper bugs I never hit).

This isn't rocket surgery, every automaker on the planet (other than Tesla and new GM) offers CarPlay. ACP has been out for 10+ years this isn't some "new" thing that BRP should be struggling with at this point. There's simply no excuse whatsoever for BRP to have hosed this up so badly. I doubt they are even responsible for implementing it, whatever vendor they chose to create the new digital dash is probably the one gumming up the works.

If Apple Car Play can be put on a tablet and sold for less than $200 I don't think it's a money thing.

So I had previously contacted my salesman about the letter with the offered compensation for the Carplay issues, but never got a response.

So that gave me a reason for some wind therapy during a trip to the dealer.

The salesman was busy with another customer when I got there, so I wandered around waiting to talk to him.
When he came over, he greeted me by name, so it was nice to be remembered.

I explained the letter I had received and asked if he knew anything about the $500 "Parts, Accessories & Apparel". He said he'd heard about it, but didn't know the details, but asked me to wait while he talked to his manager.

He was in with his manager for awhile, and came back with a printed page that was different than the letter I received, but the details were basically the same.

I can choose any BRP "stuff" up to $500 worth, and he confirmed it was a one time chance, and that I couldn't pick a couple of things that were less than $500 total now, and then come back later asking for more to get up to the $500.

He was very clear that it does have to be BRP/CAN-AM branded stuff, and not any 3rd party products.
He also said that if they don't have exactly what I want in their stock they can usually order it and get it in less than week.
And he reminded me I had to make my choices by the end of December.

He suggested I go home and research what I wanted and then send him the list after I had decided.

I was at the dealer today getting my 5k service. Picked up my half cover, bunch of cleaning supplies, and confirmed they ordered my short reach bars. The bars are back ordered to June 21.
The way I’m looking at it, I’m still Ryding my Spyder with a huge smile. Got stuff I wanted anyway, with no money out of my pocket. Hopefully in the future I will have ACP, along with a clean Spyder, Short reach bars, and a half cover.

Did you have to sign a waiver to get the $500 in accessories? Tom :spyder:

yeah I wanna know that too....

@ riplin, wow you got 5K on it already?

Those folks opting for BRP gear.
As a suggestion, very possibly some dealers still have previous or two seasons previous gear. Often shops prefer to move out gear if forced upon them by the oem.

In the past, the wife and I got some BRP gear, and the shop was reasonable in discounting it, since they preferred to free up money for non BRP specific gear.

Not saying it is an absolute, but that closeout rack could be a great value for some.

Sorry 5000km.
I signed nothing.

Same here, didn’t sign anything. Only thing I found out yesterday was from dealer was that since I went to a different dealer (than the one I bought the Spyder from), they had to get “authorization” from manager for me to get the $500 worth of “goodies”. Didn’t know that was a “requirement”.?

Interesting. I went back to re-read the original letter I got to see if there was something about needing to go to your original dealer.

It says "Visit your local BRP-affiliated dealership..." but doesn't say anything about it needing to be the dealer where you bought your Spyder.

But it does say that "...you must bring your proof of purchase and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)."

I suppose riding up on your Spyder would give them access to the VIN, but you'd still have to prove you were the purchaser.

And don't forget you have to take care of everything by the end of this year!

You gotta love corporate hoop jumping requirements. :D

I visited my dealer to talk to them about the letter BRP sent me, and after my salesman went and talked to his manager for a few minutes, he came back with a single printed sheet that was titled PROMOTION DETAILS.
It contained the details for the dealer to follow.

The last section of the document is titled "Parameters". There are 10 bulleted parameters, but two jumped out at me.

The first parameter is information about the BEST coverage extension.
It says: "Units with a total coverage of 60 months (max. coverage) are not eligible for the 1Y additional B.E.S.T. coverage." (yes, the word "not" was bolded and underlined)

Parameter 7: "Customer must redeem full credit amount at once."

There is a description at the top of the letter for the Promotional Period. If you purchased your Spyder before May 20, 2024 you have until December 31, 2024 to claim the offer. If you purchased a Spyder after May 20, 2024 you have until the "feature" (aka Apple Carplay) becomes available to claim the offer.

At the bottom of the page someone hand wrote "Before 12/31/24", and the salesman pointed out the date to me and reminded me I had to make my choices by the end of December.

There was more to the document that the dealers received than the single page I was given, as at the very bottom of the page I received it says "Page 2".
