• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone with the Smooth Spyder backrest?

I was looking for a backrest and found the carbon black BRP unit but my wife about hit the fan when I told her it would cost $750 for both parts required to put it on. The only other option I see if the Smooth spyder backrest or buying a new seat with the passenger backrest option. One thing that is important to me is the ability to take it off and retain the stock appearance. I looked on Smooth Spyders website and it says their backrest is removable easily so I would love to hear from someone that has installed it already. Does it remove easy and when removed do you see the mounting hardware still? Thanks in advance!

The backrest can be removed from view completely in about 5 minutes with only the 3/16" aluminum backing plate remaining underneath the plastic. Four grade 8, 5/16 lock nuts secure the backrest assembly to four 5/16 bolts that come up through the holes where the 2 pushpins under the seat were located. Remove the four 5/16" nuts under the seat, lift off the complete assembly and replace the nuts, done.DSC00103.jpgDSC00109.jpg Thanks for looking.DSC00114.jpg

Any chance you would share the install directions for this unit so I could get an idea how involved it would be to self install?

Just got one a few weeks ago

If you are wanting a backrest, this is the one to get. Hands down. You just will not believe how much it improves the ride. If you have a passenger that sometimes rides along, this is definitely the one to get. Got a trip planned in a few weeks and will be really giving it the long ride test. My boy will be coming along with his Harley and he is already wanting to know if Gentleman Jim has any plans for making something he could use on his bike. I told you he would Jim. Whatta say Sir? I bet you would sell about a million of 'em.

I Sure can. Well, it showed up as an invalid file here, if you send me your email I will send them to you, Thanks

And thanks Grumpy, glad it's serving you well!

There are several dealers who sell on Ebay at discounted prices. I paid a little over $400 for my sport rack and back rest, both brand new. I bought each piece from a different store, choosing the one with the best price. Rack was $179 and the rest was $239
