• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone using this?

I use the Spot Messenger on all longer rides. I keep tracking on if I ride solo and tracking off if on a two up or group ride. It gives me great confidence that if I need help it is nearby. It is important to keep it on your person and not the bike. It does you little good attached to the bike if you take a spill and cannot get to the bike. On my coast to coast trip last year, my family was able to track me and at the end of the day I would send out an "I'm OK and this is where I will be for the night" message so they knew I was safe for the evening!

You may want to consider a site called SpotWalla. You can set up page to track you and save tracks for the whole year. I believe spot shows the last two weeks worth of tracking at a time.

I have looked at these before, can the service be turned off and on.

There is a monthly fee associated with this, which is fine a business needs to make money. But can you turn it off in the winter so in affect only pay for 6 months of use.

Anyone using this

I have been using mine for a couple of years now. Saved my bacon in 2010 up along the Canadan border in North Dakota in what really seemed like the middle of no where no cell phone service and very little traffic on the road and as luck would have it I got a rear flat tire on my Harley that I was riding I was 125 miles from the nearest Harley Dealer in Minot north Dakota bike was loaded down had been on the road for a week or better, hit the spot to summon help and within 10 minutes a Deputy Sheriff showed up and told me that one of the off duty Deputies had a flat bed trailer and was going into Minot and could take me and the bike and ride along with him well to make a long story a little shorted I did just that he he drove me right in to the service dept. had my tire changed and was on my way, moral to the story is I never leave home without my spot. and now I also have "Ride on" in all tires to prevent flats, both are very good products in my opinion.

You could also use something like this with an Iphone and it's free.

ok as a cheap alternative but you would require cell signal. The spot is designed as an emergency summoner. Say if you took a tumble and could push the spot button, emergency services will be dispatched to your location. A lot of hikers and mountain climbers carry them. The locator is a short of secondary to primary purpose.

Agree, when I was in Colorado my AT&T cellphone service was weak or un existent in many places.
