• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone using this back rest?

UTOPIA VS. SHOW CHROME ? ? ?

I've done the Utopia on a GS ( which is way harder than an RT ), and it wasn't to difficult. What I saw here was a much better Demonstration Video on how to install the backrest........What you might want to consider is the " Show Chrome " backrest appears to be considerably fatter / thicker than the Utopia and that's going to cut down on the space available for the passenger, and that space is limited to begin with.....Personally I think the Utopia could be " THINNER " and still accomplish it's goal as a comfortable Backrest.......I mean it's a Mtc. backrest not a " LAZYBOY "......No sleeping while riding ...OK, Mike

Utopia Seatback

It's almost as comfortable as a Lazy Boy. With my back all welded together and lots of arthritis, it's the answer. I've heard that it is easiest to install when you beg your tech to put it on for ya and slip him $20. 15 0r 20 minutes later, you're outa there. These guys make it look so easy.
It's the best add on with many bike people. I have one on my Helix Scooter and "83 Magna also.

We don't have the answer that you seek .... just a few observations

We also have the Utopia on Teds Red Sled, which is a 2011 RT-S and after watching this video, the install is almost identical to the install of the Utopia, so you wouldn't be saving anything there. As Mike pointed out, this one seems much thicker taking up valuable space. The Utopia also matches the OEM seat perfectly, whereas this one does not. Also, the Utopia does have an adjustment for forward and back lean, it also folds forward and down as this one does, and they both have a pouch on the rear of the backrest for additional storage. I know our Utopia Backrest is a mod I'd not want to be without.

Sorry we can't offer any opinions on the backrest your seeking information about, but I thought it only fair that you knew, besides saving a few dollars, there doesn't seem to be much/any benifit to this backrest compared to the Utopia. Loosing space due to the thickness would seem that it would actually be a detriment. But as with anything, what works for one may not work for another. Good luck in your search for knowledge ;)

I was wondering if this is a good backrest? I have seen the Utopia but have read it is a bear to install this one seems simple enough and has some adjustment for height and forward (with spacers) It is available at one of our forum venders and is $70 cheaper than a Utopia. Is it a good thing? Is it comfortable?

Does anyone offer a similar backrest for the Spyder ST? I would like to find someone that offered a backrest for both the ryder and passenger.

I cannot speak to the quality of the Show Chrome backrest, but know that the Utopia is first rate in all respects. Also, the Utopia has a far greater adjustment range (fore/aft) than the one in the video. As you can see in the picture Dave provided, the Utopia actually does match the passenger backrest both in stitching and material. The Show Chrome video says they do, but I don't see it as a match, at least as far as the stitching is concerned.

Dave is also right as far as ease of installation. They are identical.

This one looks as if it could be a viable option; but I'm also thinking that ShowChrome's quality may yet be... unproven.
I certainly don't mean to say that it's not as good; it's just that Utopia has such a proven track record of satisfied riders that it might be tough to crack into this niche in the market...
But it's certainly worth a look... and maybe even antoehr look!

I Emailed the vendor for this backrest 3 days ago asking if it would also fit the BRP comfort seat. I got no response :(

Thus I will probably go with the Utopia myself.

Backrest

I installed a Utopia on our RT about a month ago. After watching the video it appeared to me that the install for the two are almost identical. The quality of the Utopia is first class. I got the detachable option so it can be removed when my wife is driving and I am the passenger. I needed more room.

Thanks for the replies guys but I am really looking for someone who has this one installed and if they like it.

Backrest

I considered the cheaper back rest to save on the cost. I went with the Utopia after comparing the size. The Utopia was larger for more back support and is also adjustable for height. I even bought the matching vinyl for looks. Support those sponsor vendors!

I don't know how long this item has been available... it ight take a little while to find somebody who has one...
You could always contact the company and ask them about folks who have installed it. Are there any testimonials available...
