• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone tried wearing prescription goggles under a full helmet? Recommendations?

I need corrective lenses in order to see, and my glasses become uncomfortable to wear after a few hours, and contacts are not an option for me. Also, I am not comfortable with wearing anything less than a full or modular helmet, mainly for safety reasons.

Has anyone ever worn prescription goggles like the Wiley-X SG-1s under a full helmet, or recommend what they use?

I would prefer something that uses an elastic band that wraps around the head, thin enough to be underneath the cheek pads without causing discomfort like the arms of my regular glasses do.

I had similar concerns when I started shopping for motorcycle helmets, but a quick Google search similar to:

Found several options.
HarleyDavidson sells a helmet that the pads on the side of the head are separated into upper and lower pieces, so that there is a physical "channel" between the padding, where the earpieces for the glasses fit.

I'm currently riding with a white HJC C91 modular helmet, which I have no problems wearing with my glasses. It even has a sunshade you can lower so you don't have to switch to your sunglasses.

The Wiley X SG-1's are about US $100 and lens start at US $35 depending on your prescription. So $135+ and then $35+ more each time your prescription changes and you need new lenses.

A quick Google Shopping search shows the price of an HJC C91 ranges from US $110 to $300, although I'm not sure why there's such a wide variance.

I bought mine from cyclegear.com for US $185 in May. Mine is a Pearl White, which I bought to go with the matte white of my Spyder.

Me too. Full modular helmet. Glasses.

I fixed it.
I removed the lining,then "trimmed " the shell and the cheek pad a little bit where the arms go. :yikes: Replaced the lining.

Perfecto! :2thumbs: All day comfort.


Cost was a whopping $000,000.00

Most of the Bell helmets have channels for glasses and pockets for helmet speakers. I wear prescription glasses with my bell and paid extra for progressive 2 lenses that have a wider field of view.

Plus they are shatterproof, have transition and anti-glare lenses, that combined with my photochromic visor on my bell gives me clear vision day and night.

Anything with an elastic headband is going to interfere with a helmet. Most helmets these days have clearance for glasses built in as other posters have already mentioned. Ryan F9 supports 'Flying Eyes' glasses https://flyingeyesoptics.com and they seem to have super-thin yet strong arms that should offer minimal discomfort on the side of the head in a helmet.
 
I bought my wife and I Sena Outrush R helmets.
These include Bluetooth communications, integrated sunvisor, and have slots in the interior that accommodate glasses pretty well.
They do run a little small, I ended up returning my large for an XL, and my wife went from a small to a medium, but they offered free returns, so it was only a small inconvenience.
 
My wife works for optometrists. She tells people that ride (sleds or bikes) to bring their helmet with them when buying glasses.
Last time I bought a helmet, I had a hard time finding one that fit me with my glasses.

nightfalcon, I had an Arai XD3 for 18 years.
I ended using it for target practice to stop wearing it.
(the face shield stops a 22cal pellet at 400fps at 5 feet)

I have used many helmets with glasses for over 50 years. Never any problem. But my glasses for riding have all had thin metal frames like aviation glasses. Not big ol' thick plastic glasses like Buddy Holly.

What brand of helmet do you have? Most new helmets have openings between the pads for the eyeglasses arms.

Are your glasses the type with the arm that curves over and behind the ear? I tried glasses with curved arms once many years ago and they were very uncomfortable. Since I switched to glasses with a straight arm I find they are much more comfortable with a helmet and a lot easier to slide inside the helmet once it's on. I've been wearing glasses with straight arms with multiple different helmets for 35 years and never had a problem.

I agree with racoon, the cost of new glasses whether with an elastic headband or normal ear pieces will cost about the same as a new helmet. I wear glasses and alternate among my HJC Raptor modular, the HJC 3/4 and the Bilt 3/4 helmets. All purchased from Cycle Gear.
I also wear a skull cap under the helmet that covers my ears and eyeglass earpieces, which makes it easy to put on and remove the helmet without taking off my eyeglasses. You can also wear a doo rag which will do the same thing. Make sure the skull cap and/or doo rag cover your ears and are made for wearing under a helmet else the stitching may cause you to have headaches.
