• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone removed the Rear Trunk on 2020 RTL & replaced with panel? Miss the storage?

:agree:

I never remove my top case for this reason. The more lights for people to see you, the better. I added the slingmod afterburner lights but I still like the extra light from the top case. Plus, it's eye level for drivers behind me so it's more noticeable. My take is, the bigger the footprint, the hope is the better chance that they'll see you.

+1 on this... I'll be getting the new Show Chrome lights when they are available also..

I have a 2023 RTL and I bought the cover panel and decided the bike looks better with the trunk on plus we always need some storage area? I have never driven a mile without the trunk on? the cover was not a good investment on my part..

I do like mine better without the trunk. But sometimes the wife will not ride her own bike, but Ican convince her to ride with me. So now I keep the trunk on mine and ride hers when I want to not have the trunk. As for extra space, I don't miss it, because I rode a 2016 F3T for 6 years. No storage there.

Being a 100% solo rider, my thought was to use the top case for trips only and remove for every day, so I did. Then I thought I did buy this bike for touring and put it back on. Too easy to just drop the helmet in, plus the added rear light. Now, I just added a SE luggage rack for appearance. Case is staying on :)

I just had my flat panel on for a few days. I like it. Since I have the BRP arm rests on, I just remove them. One bolt per side, easy peasy. Bruce

Appearance preferences are pretty individual. Personally I like the look of a Spyder without the case. When I bought my Spyder in 2021 I bought the basic RT in part because of looks, and in part because I did not want to spend the additional $4K for the rear trunk and the seat warmer (which I would never use as I hate the feel of an electrically heated seat). But I wanted a passenger backrest for my wife, so I had to purchase the plate as well to mount in on. The one time that I felt that I needed the extra storage I easily bungeed a soft case on to the back plate and was good to go.

funny yu brought this up? I have a 2023RT Limited and purchased the trunk lid (over $200+) and one day decided I wanted to see what it looked like. removed the trunk - put on the lid and rode around town. It looked like I was missing something so took off the lid and put the trunk back on and never looked back.. I always need to throw something in the trunk so I made a bad decision buying the lid..

That’s such an “individual circumstances” thing, Bob. I ride with the panel unless I’m heading off on a multi day trip. It is only 5 minutes to remove the panel and pop the trunk back on.

Pete

This is the info I was looking for too. The sleekness without the trunk almost made me opt for the F3, but I like the higher seating position of the RT (coming from a Goldwing Trike). I am ordering the panel now and figure to use it unless taking a passenger as they most likely would want the backrest. Thanks!

I am ordering the panel now...

Interesting, as my 2024 came with the top case installed, and I also got a big, flat box that contained the driver's seat backrest and hardware, AND the panel to replace the top case if I decided to remove it.

Did you Spyder not come with both?

@racoon...my 2024 S2S and my 2023 S2S both came with the drivers back rest and the top plate panels. Panels were in boxes. Haven't tried them. IIRC, 2023 panel is Green to match the 2023 S2S, but I haven't looked at it since September 2023.
