Anyone put HID on their F3?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has put an HID kit on their F3 yet and if you did, how do you like them. I tried LED headlights and I was not happy with them. They were not very bright and had no high beam, so I sent them back. My wife had HID on her 2009 GS and she loved them, so I thought that I would see if this can be done.
I see from reading that they can flicker a lot, they can also shut off and they can give off codes.
I looked at Xenon Depot, but the ones they have are $200 which is a little much for us. Especially, with the Canadian dollar being what it is.

I have a set of HID Xenon Depot HID'S in boxes sitting in my garage. Loved them when they would turn on but every once in awhile one wouldn't turn on a real pain. Sometimes just turn them off back on and they work and it could be weeks before they'd act up again :banghead: I replaced every part possible and think I can change the bulbs with my eyes closed I've done it so many times. Frustration finally got the best of me and went LED. For $100 or so Electrical Connection or Lamonster have some nice one's.

You tried the wrong LED kit on your F3. Get the ones Lamont sells. I have installed several sets for folks and they are FAR brighter than stock halogens, high and low beam and work very well. Very happy customers with them.

We no longer recommend ANY of the HID kits on the Spyders due to the extreme electrical noise they generate and the associated troubles this causes with the bike's control systems.

When you go to the EBay sight and look at the list of compatible vehicles, Can Am isn't listed; even if you use the drop down lists the seller provides.

Hi JC,

I gave up on LED. Until they produce a LED bulb with chips on multiple sides to shed light like a halogen bulb does, it won't really be that great.

That is why I decided to go with HID.

Brettssunshine,

I could not find where it says it is Can Am compatible.

I sent them an email to ask if there will be any issues. After all, it's only $50 and if it doesn't work on the Spyder I can use it for my Civic. :p

'They' do. The ones from Lamont are just so configured and produce a nearly perfect beam pattern in the stock housings. Separate elements for high and low, just as the halogens they are replacing. The HIDs do NOT do this. Same for the even more difficult projector housings in the RT (different lamp config but he as them as well). I am trying to tell you, the LED lamps have finally surpassed what the HIDs can do if correctly made.

I agree in saying that the LED kit Lamonster sells is fantastic. I've installed it on my F3s and the beam patter is perfect, HI beams work, and NO ONE has ever flashed me from oncoming traffic, so they are definitely pointed correctly. Highly recommended.

Do you have the link to Lamonster's LED's for the F3's?

I decided to forget the HID lights. I contacted three different distributors to see if they are compatible and none of them got back to me. I guess I will just put in some PIAA halogen lights and be done with this. :banghead::banghead:

I put in the Lamonster's LED's for the Headlights. Fog lights next. You'll love them!

Do you see a real noticeable difference?

The price just seems a little pricey to me. 😨

How much more light coverage do you get with the LED's? Are you stoked about the difference and/or improvement?

Let's put it this way. The guys I ride with thought I did HID's when they first saw them, even during the day. Heck, I once flashed them with the hi-beams in broad daylight, cuz they were gonna miss the turnoff, and I could see the road signs light up with reflection!! :yikes:

This is of course is in reference to the LED units from Lamonster (which are the same units that Electrical Connection sells).... Def the best 110.00 bucks I can remember spending. And his LED driving lights are just as phenomenal at half the cost of BRP units and look waaaaaaay better!
