Anyone know of a Rear Rack compatible with F3S Pillion Backrest?

Hi all

So, I've just pressed the button on a 2021 F3S. I'm a right leg amputee so it's going into a workshop to be converted to a left foot brake, then the fun begins, my first Spyder and I can't wait!

The bike already has Shad panniers but I'm looking to possibly add a rear rack for strapping on a bag.

I'm based in the UK so due to import duties etc am looking at UK/European supply only.
Is anybody aware, please, of a rear rack that is compatible with the Can Am Pillion back rest (the QR non adjustable version)?

The only decent rack I seem to be able to find is the Italian Issota one (image attached) but they aren't responding to emails and my spoken Italian is non existent.

Cheers
Andres

Welcome to the forum Andres, and congrats on that bike! I can imagine the anticipation, and I hope the shop gets it to you pronto. That's a neat rack you have picked out. It looks like Pyramid carries Isotta, may be worth a call?

I ordered direct from Pyramid some years ago when we needed a fender extender for one of our bikes, they seemed to be a nice bunch back then. Let us know how it goes, and we'll want to hear all about the bike. We love pictures, too.

Thanks Sarah, appreciated :)

And yes, I'm familiar with Pyramid (nice bunch for defo) so will give them a call.

Welcome to the site, glad to see you getting a new ride and putting the farkels to it! Glad to see that the guy's above have mentioned Martin, he could be a great resource for you!! Good luck, from the videos that Martin puts on the site you live in a beautiful area, and I would like to grab the bride and see it sometime, maybe from one of Martin's tour services. Have fun, stay safe.

Congratulations, Andres and best wishes finding a rack that works!! I was going to suggest Martin's shop since he has most everything!!

Cheers Mikey and yeah, Martin lives in a beautiful part of the world, Slovakia........a bit of a way away from England where I am although compared to the distances you guys over the pond travel it's nothing ;)

Whatever, if you get the chance to do one of his tours go for it, I've ridden through there on a bike and the country (and surrounding areas) is just stunning!

Don't discount buying and shipping from the USA to the UK.... it might be cheaper than you think. The exchange rate is in your favour and the distance is only around 7,800km.

Down here in Australia where 'off the shelf' Spyder accessories are EXTREMELY rare, it's often cheaper to buy direct & ship it down the 14,000km than it is to buy from a local retailer (if you can find one) and pay his marked-up price.

....and fair comment Mariner. Same here, aftermarket kit is not exactly plentiful in the UK so will keep that in mind, thanks :)

If you decide to consider North American sources, here's the rack I bought from a great company in Quebec, Canada.

This definitely works with the OEM passenger backrest and Shad bags on my F3-S.

Ps: That same Canadian company also offers a different approach to a rear rack that leverages the OEM passenger backrest.

Cheers Woodswoman (y) The rack you have looks like it'd do the trick... The one that attaches to the back rest I've seen, and whilst I'm sure it's up to the job, it does worry my slightly as to how much weight you could safely put on it... I think I'd feel happier with a frame mounted rack.

Thanks again for the suggestions guys, I'm sorted now so thought I'd update in case it's ever of any help to somebody else.

To cut a long story short, I decided to go with a Shad rear top box mount rack. This defo works with the pillion backrest, but has the advantage of being integrated with the Shad pannier frames I already have fitted.

Yes, it's designed to mount a Shad top box too, so the plate is designed to do just that, so strictly speaking, it's not a rack. The plate is made of plastic and is also what holds the mounting arms together, so it is an integral part of the set-up.

I have no intention of fitting a top box, I much prefer to use a roll bag, but the mounting plate will do to strap a bag onto for now and I'll ultimately design a custom plate, get it laser cut, and fit that instead.

I've yet to mount it, but I have measured everything up and it all works. The pictures attached are library pictures from Shad, and the mounting instructions, so hopefully you get the idea. (y)
