• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Anyone having Gear Position Sensor issues on their ST?

I’ve read there were issues with RTs having issues with Gear Position Sensors, but can’t find anything on a ST?

And I can’t find a GPS listed in the parts catalog to see where it even is?

Anyone have issues with this or know where to find?

2013 ST-S, stuck in 3rd gear. Starts runs fine, but barely moves starting out in 3rd gear.

Heard common issue with RTs , replace and everything is fine.

I do see an angle position sensor at the end of the shifting mechanism, could that be it?

Hey Snoopy. Yes, that's the official part listing name for the GBPS. I guess. That part item number 21 on the diagram, part number 420266168 is the gear box position sensor.

But...if you're stuck in 3rd gear, and you're indicating 3rd gear on the display and not "E", or some other intermittent value, it would appear to be a good signal from the sensor. I'd first be looking at some other things, too. I take it this is an SE5. The most common issue of being stuck in gear and not being able to shift at all is the shifter arm has fallen off the shift shaft - along with low oil level in the tank. Have you checked that?

Thank you very much. I do plan to check linkage connection and even the paddle shifter once I get it home.

When I googled the issue I came up with the sensor first so asked the question.

I hope it’s just the linkage since I haven’t heard of a ST doing this and yes it is a SE5.

Yes it says 3rd. I’ve tried turning it off/on and still in 3rd. Letting it cool off and restarting, still in 3rd.

Thanks

Ok, so bike back home. Concerned me at first that the shift rod was still in place til I took a closer look. At the end towards the rear where the rod connects to a splined shaft, it was spinning on the shaft. :(

I disconnected it there, cleaned it up, and aligned and reattached it. All works good. Hoping the shaft is the harder part and undamaged, I’m going to replace the softer aluminum splined part to be safe.

So it ended up not being the gear position sensor nor the shift rod coming loose.
