• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone else get this Howling Noise? What's the fix?

FWIW the BMW LT community had a similar noise and they called it the K bike whine, the cure was not to ride at that RPM (42-4300) so it would not make the noise. Personally I like a little cheese with my whine ;).

Sometimes you can over think a thing to death!
Needing earplugs to make a piercing whine attenuate to avoid a headache is one solution I suppose. On the other hand, if this is perfectly normal - as my possibly "gaslighting dealer" is suggesting - how is Can Am successfully selling these vehicles with built in deficiencies?

The dealer, and BRP too, IF the dealer has actually contacted them and got that response from them, is full of it to even suggest this 'harmonic type noise or howl at a certain road speed' is 'normal' - there's literally thousands of Spyder Ryders out there who have never been bothered by any loud &/or intrusive noises at a given speed, and many, many, MANY Spyders that just don't make any intrusive noises like this at any given speed, beyond the engine noise anyway! ;) However, there is quite a bit of discussion on the Forum about noises, harmonic &/or otherwise intrusive noises, at or around a given speed...

So @Bob from Florida, if you spend some time searching thru the older threads here, you should be able to find earlier discussion on these 'harmonic type noises or howls at a certain road speed' reported and (supposedly) fixed by various means in the years since Spyders first hit the streets. The first 'fix' that I can find being mentioned on the boards here was to put a 'single, pea sized dab of grease in the teeth of the belt' to make the noise go away as you rode... not sure exactly how long that one worked, but still?! 😋 Or maybe the actual 'first fix' was to toss the OEM tires and replace them with better quality a/mkt car tires and run them at about 18 psi (lighter load, lower pressure necessary) - that one scored a win for quite a few on the noise they were experiencing at certain road speeds - my original OEM tires didn't last long enough or work anywhere near adequately for me to get upset about any excessive noise they made at any given speed on our Ozzie roads, but changing them out certainly did reduce the whining noise and complaining that I made all the time I ran them as I complained and bleated about how freakin' appalling they were in all respects, so maybe...

Anyhoo, the 'fixes' for these 'harmonic type noises or howls at a certain road speed' things progressed thru changing the tension &/or alignment of the belt; to adding (or taking off 😒) a belt 'tensioner' that's really only a vibration dampener and potential belt destroyer; and the latest discussion I could find that was specifically aimed at this 'harmonic type noise at a certain road speed' was the 'very intrusive wind noise whistle' that was eventually resolved, but ONLY for those who complained and knew about the bulletin from BRP and could convince their dealers to fix it, by swapping the original 'black' front pulley for the replacement 'white' front pulley, but that was pretty much immediately before the 'Front Sprocket Recall' hit the streets and so this 'fix' largely got lost amongst all the ensuing discussion on the Front Pulley Recall!?! 😖

So without hearing or getting any more specifics on your particular noise, @Bob from Florida, it might pay to do some searching (up toward the top right of the page) and reading thru the existing threads on these noises - who knows, your answer may be already posted on the boards here? I'd post a few 'Search Results' pages if I could, but that doesn't work here cos what you see as Search results requires you to enter the keyword/search string, and that means my search results won't display for you; so I'd suggest that you, at least initially, enter your keyword/search string AND check the 'Search titles only' box in order to keep the results to a (hopefully) manageable number of pages, and maybe look at 'White Pulley' first (entering just 'noise' returns about 10+ pages of threads!) - at least some of the people who own 2020+ Spyders that had issues with that wind type harmonic noise have had the noise resolved or at least reduced by replacing their original pulley with the ceramic(?) coated white pulley, so it's gotta be worth a look, doesn't it??

Good Luck! (y)
