Anybody use Amsoil?

I do. My dealer swears by it and I haven't heard anything bad. Just make sure you get the "motorcycle" variety so you don't have clutch problems. I've got 6,000 miles on my Spyder and have never had to add oil.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try it out on this oil change.

I've been using Amsoil for about ten years in my bikes, lawnmowers, etc. I like it but... I think any reputable full synthetic will be a major step up from dino and blended. Use SL or lower rating and no friction modifiers!

I've used Amsoil in a few oil changes. The only reason that I use anything else is because of convenience. My dealer doesn't carry Amsoil motor oil so I have to make two stops if I want to use it, one for the filter and one for the oil.

Amsoil

Wondering if anybody uses Amsoil in the Spyder? Could use some feed back.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is great oil, just be sure to use the motorcycle oil. The only two motorcycle oils I'll use is Mobil 1 or Amzoil. (not saying that they are the only good motorcycle oils--That is just what I use).nojoke

BEEN USING IT SINCE THE THREE THOUSAND MILE SERVICE - LOVE IT - NO PROBLEMS AT ALL AND NOW HAVE OVER TEN THOUSAND MILES.
VERY HAPPY SPYDER OWNER:clap:

I have heard a lot of positive inputs about Amsoil. I have never used it, but the oil I use is not carried by my dealer either. I ride 80 miles for a filter and pick up the oil on the way back home. 160 miles to get what I need for the oil change. Would be nice to have a dealer closer, but what a great excuse for a ride!

Redline oil for me.... Nothing against any of the other synthetics, I just found Redline to work the best for me in my other bikes, so in the Spyder it goes.........
11 qts of BRP Syn then it will be Redline for me beacause HDX says so :joke: Smylinacha has a nice quiet shift goin on test rode it after he did it :ani29:

I am using AmsOil. I don't think you can get a better oil. There may be comperable out there though.

Mobil 1 is also an excellent oil. In tests it's not too far off AmsOil.

I just order both the oil and filters on line. I don't have to pay tax (but I do pay shipping, of course).

That way it's sitting here when I get ready to change it. Of course I never seem to have the time!

That's another reason I use AmsOil. It will take an extended oil change better than most.

Castrol Power RS R4 5w40 fully synthetic - Spyder warranty compliant per owner's manual.

Owner - Reminder keep receipts for proof of doing oil change

Just think if BRP is blaming Juice Box for recall software problems just thing what they will do with use of Amsoil 10W40.

Amsoil as a company has alway been fantastic for me and they will go to bat for you if you have any oil related issuses with their product.

I use amsoil motorcycle oil too. I can't stand that BRP thinks it has the only oil that will work in there machines.

I've got some left over 10W-40 Amsoil from my last bike. I don't recall seeing 5W-40 at the dealers. Does anyone know if Amsoil makes 5W-40, or if it matters which is used in the Spyder?

Rod.

No 5w40 that I could find - it all depends whether you want to follow the letter of the law according to BRP. In your owners manual it tells you the requirements for the oil. Castrol Power RS R4 5w40 fully synthetic meets these requirements as do others.

Interesting that BRP has dealers using BRP brand blended oil in Spyders which does not meet their own requirements:dontknow:

OK, for some that don't know it, I use Royal Purple 10W40 Synthetic. As was explained to me, the 10 is the weight of the oil at cold start. The 40 is weight of the oil at running temperature. For some people, the cold start weight may be a concern because of extremely cold weather starting, etc. Personally, I kind of put aside the warranty concern about BRP when they claimed that a 10W40 Blend oil would be good in the same engine that before, the only oil was Synthetic 5W40! The engine does not know the difference between any make of oil. The weight can make some difference, as was explained to me.

So . . . . .

. . . ordering oil and filters works better than tires?

The make probably doesn't make a difference but the specifications do. All Motorcycle oil should carry the JASO MA certification; for a lot of reasons that have been discussed before.nojoke
