Anybody have trouble w cruise control

Im having trouble getting my cruise control to work. It worked last weekend
But now its not. Is it possibly a fuse? If so which one us it. Th fuse
Box isnt very clear on that

First, be sure it is still turned on. It is fairly easy to bump the button to the left. Second, be sure you are going fast enough. The cruise will not work at too low an rpm, so it may kick out or fail to engage at something like 40-45 mph in fifth gear, and at lower speeds in lower gears. It also ill not work if you ride the brake pedal even slightly. The VSS can kick it out, too. Otherwise, serious faults can also disable it, like the a brake or steering failure, but these usually result in fault messages and/or limp mode. The cruise control uses the CANbus (digital network) system, so it is not fused, per se. If it still doesn't work after you check your switch, brake, and speed, it is time to visit your dealer.

Make sure on your cluster (bottom left I think in Green letters )when you slide the cruise button to the far right it says cruise on and then when you push the button down it says cruise set .As Scotty said its pretty fussy about your speed( think you have to be above 45 ) and the slightest touch of the brake or increase of the throttle will cancel it .

Increasing the throttle will not cancel the cruise control...although the clutch switch will.

My cruise Control switch Failed

Obviously it's always good practice to check the common sense things first, ie. switch position, micro-switches on clutch lever, (SM5), and brake pedal. As Scotty pointed out, throttle position and movement doesn't trip the CC. If I'm not mistaken, limp mode will also trip the CC. With that said, my Ccntrol switch failed in a way that was difficult to catch in fail mode and therefore demo the problem to my service department. It was intermittent.. meaning the failure was difficult to catch at just the right time. Eventually the failures became more and more frequent and I was eventually able to have my service tech experience the problem while on a test ride. They replaced the switch and all is well. My failure problem was that with all other parameters in the right hole, when I pushed down to engage cruise the green cruise light would come on momentarily but it would only engage but for a second or two and then trip off. Sometimes, it would engage when pushing the CC switch up in the resume position. My service department said that they had replaced a few other switches for similar failures.... Len

Mine was having issues for a while (before Spyderfest). I can get it to engage at my desired speed (although sometimes I have to hit SET a couple of times to turn on and engage), but once I hit RES?ACC, it turns the CC off and have to turn on again to get back to my speed. My dealer hooked it on BUDS (I don't see why since it seems to be the switch and not the computer) and ran some electronic contact cleaner and did do not much. Kent from BRP told me in Maggie Valley that it needed to replace the switch (my first assumtion) but since removal of the handlebar parts was going to be needed, I am going to wait until the weather starts getting colder and I will leave it in the dealer for the exchange.

I have noticed my cruise will ONLY work over 45 mph however the manual indicates the following:

Setting the Cruise Control
To use the cruise control, the vehicle
speed must be above approximately
25 km/h (15MPH).
Turn the cruise control to ON by sliding
the cruise control button to the right.

Any idea why it does not work under 45 mph?

I've found like Scotty says that it is RPM based. My experience shows that you need to be over about 3800 RPM. it's not super sensitive so climbing a steep hill may lower RPM and kick off the CC.

Mine needs to about 3200 to engage so I can set it at 25 in second gear for around town driving. It is right on the edge at that speed so if it is not busy I bump up to 26 (by GPS) so it stays locked on.

I personally don't believe in this practice. Thing happen too fast in town, and "auto-pilot" is too darned dangerous. Many auto manufacturers and safety consultants warn against the use of cruise control except for highway use...and I agree. :lecturef_smilie:
