Tell you what--- I've been racking my brains all day trying to insure a young (19 year old) driver and just cannot believe the rates we're getting quoted!
Seems the only way a 19 year old could afford to insure a car is to get them a beater and not put much coverage on it.
We would rather have him drive a newer(2002) car with better safety features. We'd also like to have some kind of collision coverage-- but ZIKES is it over the top!
Here is what we're seeing:
2002 PT Cruiser - worth around $3,500 give or take.
6 Months with 500 comp/collision
$950.00 - $1,250.00 --- for SIX months !:yikes:
Can lower to $650 without any comp/collision.
To me this just seems nuts for a $3,500 car.
