have you heard about the 6 year old boy that was charged with sexual harassment for kissing another student ( female ) on the hand. do you think this is right and does a teacher have the discretion to make the call either to talk to the kid or report them for sexual harassment, they said the young girl did want him to not do it anymore so why not just talk to the student and the parents. remember he is only six and very friendly

My son experienced something similar in 5th grade. He got his arm scratched (blood was evident from the scratch) by a girl - my son had tapped her on the arm (what she told the principal), and they were going to expel him for tapping her on the arm. Asked what was going to happen to the girl for drawing blood, and the principal said "nothing". I told them that if they expelled my son and not this girl, I would show up with any of the 20 lawyers in town because this was a discrimination case and the lawyers wouldn't mind bringing a case to a jury that they would have a 100% chance of winning. And it was not a boy / girl discrimination case. My son is caucasian and the girl was not - the school did not want to discipline the girl because the parents would cry discrimination. Well my son did not get expelled - I wonder why?

Everyone is so concerned about not getting into a lawsuit situation or they want to make sure that everyone gets a trophy if they come out to play a game, even though their team was DEAD LAST. I'm afraid that the next generation will need to stay home with mommy and daddy, instead of getting a job because they may not like what they hear from their manager once a year during their performance review.

On the news this morning the charge of sexual harassment was downgraded from a felony to a misdemeanor charge of misconduct. He was allowed to return to school. The girl involved in the case is the daughter of a teacher in the same school district. Apparently, the boy has a crush on the girl and has kissed her before with out her permission. The girls mother coached her in what to do about it and said the school acted appropriately in trying to protect her daughter. The boy has a prior record of rough housing and kissing the same girl and has been previously suspended. This kid needs to be sent up the river for a long time until he learns his lesson.:joke:

So here's my take. If the boy has priors, send him and his parents to the school counselor. Give him some guidance now and maybe he won't become a statistic later in life. These knee jerk reactions are ridiculous. No wonder so many parents want to send their kids to private schools.

why our kids are falling behind when compared to the rest of the world. I came from south america at the start of the eleventh grade (school year is different) and found I had enough credits to graduate right then. Due to a english and civics class missing I did finish that year. Our teachers could punish us as they saw fit. If we went home and complained we usually got punished all over. Had a teacher who could hit you with a piece of chaulk in the ear fronm 20 paces, really go your attention.....well here's where we are at..sad..!!

when i was in catholic school the nuns would beat the crap out of us and when we got home my father would do the same. he would always tell me, if you ever end up in jail or a cop ever brings you home your going to wish you were in jail because it will be safer than home. kids today are coddled way too much and like joe i believe life has changed in the last few years and we have lost all control of kids and the meanings of life. i used to know a family that at school one day there were police talking about child abuse, when the class was asked if they knew what child abuse was the lil girl raised her hand and said she would get hit at home, the took the lil girl and the parents had to go to court to get her back. when a doctor asked the girl how her parents beat her, she told them if she was bad she would get a slap on her bottom and it was not every time, so they gave the child back. i have no children and in a way i am happy i don't because i would be a strict parent like my dad was and i think i turned out pretty good.

As a college professor, I have to be very careful about what I say or do. The students bring their computers in and record everything. I always have to be on my toes and at my best. Scary sometimes.

I also attended a Catholic school . . . very small, poor neighborhood, it went from K through 12 and the nuns not only knew your parents, they probably taught them, too! saint anns school in Harlem new york and our nuns used to use either the wooden pointer or a 12 inch ruler and hit us on the knuckles or the palm of our hands

ANY TEACHERS OUT THERE...

I am a recently retired teacher and questions like this have no really simple answer-primarily, and unfortunately, due to district No Tolerance regulations. Many teachers will adhere to the policy with no questions asked (Not going to risk my job!). My response to this situation would be to talk quietly to the "offending" child about unwanted actions; if it continued then a call to mom, mom and dad, or dad (pick the current situation). If they pass the personality test then I would consider the case closed. If the parent cops an attitude, and the kissing continued I would probably suspend the student for a day, not to punish the child but to get the parents' attention. One thing that is not known is what the home conditions are. For example, one of my classes was reading a short story about a family band in which one of the daughters played a sax. One little boy announced that he'd could not have a sax, he was too young. But, his mom and her boyfriend had sax every time the boyfriend came over. Needless to say, the young boy and I talked about this-turned out mom and boy friend did not bother with location in the home or closing doors. In this case I immediately called Child Protective Services.

There are a lot good kids and good parents, but some school systems and adults have lost all common sense. Everybody can not win/be the best all the time. this is a fact of life. You should learn to work for what you receive, not given to you for any reason.
I drove school bus and trained drivers for years. All kinds f personal incidents.
A boys parents said, their kid would not do anything. When shown recording of him hitting a girl, they replied she must have done something first. recording was several minutes before hitting. On Bus incident.
A dad yelling and cussing at me, when I stopped to make a pick up for his son. I had made his son sit in the front seat for throwing things in back. High school. I made a statement to my boss, nothing else ever heard from. Dad would come to thestop, stay back and give me the finger. I ignored him.
Grown up. While training, I kind of interviewed trainees. More then one was more interested how much they could take off and how much they would earn, then in learning to drive. One answer I will never forget. He did not show up for his scheduled state driving exam. I had to be there to take him. He called the office a couple hours later saying, his girl friend had come in to the airport and he had to go get her. The boss asked if she had come in while he was supposed to be driving on a route, would he have done the same thing ? He said, yes. End of training. He said, he would sue. Never more about it. Boss retired because of the PC Bulls...

Agreed. I am not into much PC with accounting subjects. I would never last with subjects that could be political though.
