Any problems connecting GPS direct to battery?

When hooking up a GPS, would there be any problems with a direct to battery hook up?

All I can think of would be the need to ensure I turn it off when not using it to save battery life.

Am I correct in my thinking?

According to your Operators Guide, the 2024 F3 has three customer accessory circuits. Why would you not use one of these? They're switched ON and OFF with the ignition and already fused. Have they been removed from the 2024?

Looking at my guide, it shows all three aux wires. All of them are black arrows pointing in the general vicinity of a "greyed out" pic of the location. I am a basic oil change tire change person. NOT in any way electrical inclined. Just looking for the easiest route.

However, I do thank you for the response.

Additionally, the front pic shows two arrows pointing to 2 different places.

I have a 2024 Spyder RT, which is a bit different than your F3-S.

But both have a "glove box" in front of the handle bars, that has a USB port. I have a Garmin GPS mounted to my handle bars, which I power from the USB port in the glove box.

Just know that hooking up to your "customer accessory circuit" is far easier and faster than an oil change. It's so easy a caveman can do it.

I’m looking at the on-line manual, page 44. Not seeing greyed out, just highlighted in black. Not seeing 2 arrows pointed to 2 places. Location 3 under the passenger seat looks easiest to find. Did you look? That’s why I ask if they’ve been removed from the 2024. They were there last year. Are we on the same page?

Once again. I really do appreciate the responses, HOWEVER, I would really like an answer to my original question. I have looked in the front and under the side panel. No wires in the front compare to the Pic in the book. The side panel wires are in a wrapped bundle and I don't want to mess with that.

So, will a direct to battery (fused) be an acceptable solution?

Should be a customer accessory connection under your left side tupper ware panel. It will be labeled with white tape. I believe wires are purple/black.

Yes. If you feel comfortable with running a wire (a double wire both positive and negative) directly off the battery up to a location where you can connect your GPS, then by all means go that route. For double protection, I would also run that fused wire through a "loom wire wrap". Good luck, have fun and I think you're headed in the right direction for your knowledge and skill level.

LA, my experience with this is from my old Victory CCT, but I can only assume similar. I had an XM unit hooked straight to the battery and it worked just fine. My only problem was when I forgot to power the unit down one night when we got to our hotel late and was in a bit of a rush to get out of the saddle and cleaned up after a long day - you guessed it, I forgot to power it down and woke up to a dead battery and needing a jump start.

Long story a little longer - I see no reason why it shouldn't work; but be extra diligent about shutting it down each time.

Thank you, Thank you. That is what I was looking for. I will leave the wires full length, add the fuse and just turn the GPS on and off as needed. Perhaps at some future date, I will run across someone with more knowledge than I have (that would not be very difficult) and he or she could show me the aux hookups.

I have a Garmin Zumo XT mounted on the handlebars of my 2024 Spyder.

The cradle it mounts into can be wired to one of the vehicle power points or, even as you're thinking about doing, wired directly to the battery.

If you remove the GPS unit from the mount each time you stop then it can't draw power, and won't drain the battery.

Watch this video from a slingmods installation. At the 4 minute or so mark, it shows you where the customer accessory circuit is.
