Any passenger grip cover ideas?

Being a touch “stocky” I tend to hit the passenger grip on my RTL getting on or off with my boot. It will definitely end up marked, which I’d like to avoid. Does anyone know of a wrap or cover, DYI or not, that would help prevent this. IT would have to work with the heated grips too ...

Leather wrap? Something like road bicycle handlebar wrap?

Isn't helicopter tape meant to protect smooth &/or painted surfaces??

AFAIK, it's a tough, clear, scratch resistant, adhesive film that many of us have used on places like the tank/glovebox wear/scratch areas; the front & top of the panniers where you often see boot marks &/or stone/bug chips; the fenders or rim edges to minimise 'gutter rash' or 'door marks' from parking; or basically on any area or leading edge that might be prone to chips &/or damage andfor my 2 bob's worth, it really won't feel nice under your passenger's hands if you put it on the grips!! :lecturef_smilie:

Helipcopter tape or '3M Paintguard Protection Film' is not something you want to put on anything where you want to retain a 'soft grip' feel (like the Spyder's passenger hand grips?!) and it's definitely not something that will enhance your passenger's enjoyment & confidence in their ability to hang on if you cover the grips with it!! :shocked:

Mike, check out your local auto accessories store for any a/mkt steering wheel covers in leather or other material that might take your fancy - anything that's 'lace-on' or 'sew-on' can be readily cut down to work, and the pre-padded versions work too, possibly even the 'pre-formed grip-on' or those press-stud type 'clip-on' versions; but whatever type of steering wheel cover you get, you will need to do a little bit of trimming & sewing on the ends where you cut them down to match the length of the Spyder grips. You can choose go as unobtrusive or as larily flashy as you like, depending upon what's available of course; and just ONE steering wheel cover is usually more than enough to cover both passenger handgrips, and if you're lucky/careful with your measuring, maybe even both rider handgrips too! :thumbup:

Mike, out of all ideas suggested I think the one in your original post is the best. You can get multiple materials, colors, etc. and it should hold up very well. Would not be hard to wrap and unless you overlap it by half to make it double thick I think you could feel the grip heaters.
