• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Any Merit to being able to turn on Rad Fan?

I know when I get into slow stop and go traffic the temp gauge will climb up to the upper white and the fan comes on. Soon after, the temps go down.

Would there be any merit to having a switch intalled to be able to manually turn the fan on before it reaches the upper mark? Don't even know if this can be done, what with all the computer controlled electronics.

Just a thought....:dontknow:

You can but that is the way it's supposed to work. temp goes up, fan comes on to cool it down a bit, temp goes down, fan turns off. Car works the same way but the guage in a car doesn't move as much so you don't notice.

I installed one on my bike. If you search for it someone wrote up a nice how to guide. Just like you if I know i'm sitting in traffic i'd rather turn the fan on before allowing the bike to get hot enough for it to turn on, on it's own.

Bikerdoc: I guess I'm one that would rather keep it in the center or lower white and not let it get to upper range to start with.

Diet/Bill: Thanks for info....will start searching.

Edited to add: Did a search and found lots of info, one good one on how to do it, but also good info from Lamont and others showing that the engine is not runing hot at the point the fan comes on. While I'd like to have the switch anyway, I probably won't bother anytime soon.

i have done it no problems at all. remember a lot of people do things to there bike that they don't have too but they still do for there own piece of mind.

I have had a manual override switch for the fan on each of my three Spyders. I don't use it very often, but it comes in handy in a big traffic jam. It has also come in handy when my fan relay failed (three times).

manual fan switch

Is it difficult to install a manual fan switch? Does anyone have instructions for those who are not very handy with tools...like me.

Is it not possible to change the coolant temp sending unit for one that switch on at lower temp? I did this years ago on my Vmax and it has been working perfectly!
