Anti Freeze leak 2010 RT

My wife has a 2011 RT and the last 2 times I moved her Spyder out of the garage there has been a puddle of anti freeze on the floor.

The first time was after she had taken it out with me on my motorcycle, for a 100 mile ride immediately following her 9K service/winter. So I figured the shop might have caused this. It wasn't much maybe 3 tablespoons or so.

So a month or so later I go to move her Spyder (Don't tell her I moved it :roflblack and there was another puddle of anti freeze on the floor. Not as large but it was enough...Are there any known issues with anti freeze leaking out of 2011 RT's???

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated...Don't really want to pay a dealer for this!

Little checking..!!

Several points to check. The reservoir cap has two detents and if it is not tight to the second you could have leaks. There is a radiator hose with the only adjustble clamp on this machine that may need tightening. The actual tank has been known to develop cracks and leak from there and the other is the water pump seal. Try to trace the path....good luck and let us know what you find...:thumbup:

You should be able to see the bottom of the coolant tank in the right (while on the spyder) wheel well. To check the clamp it is under the right inspection panel(like the one on the left you remove to check the oil) look strait in, that's where mine was leaking.

Mine was the coolest tank that seperated at the seam.
It took my dealer two visits to fine it.

My 2011 developed a leak too was the water pump seal. seams it was a fairly common issue on some of the early years.Good luck hope it is just the tank cap or hose.

Water pump seals are pretty common on all the 990 (998) motors. It goes back and includes the Aprilia bikes too.

Basically, IMHO if its under warranty then have it repaired. If its not under warranty and only weeping a bit here and there, then let it be and just ride. Keep an eye on it. If it "drips" fix it.

The first point made is likely the most common source of a leak. If anyone has cracked open that radiator cap, they may not have fully seated it to the second detent when reinstalling it. It's a tight spot and they may have made an erroneous assumption that they have it properly installed.

I did this myself before a trip from Georgia to Durango, CO. It did not start showing signs of leaking until I was in New Mexico. When I stopped to check it out and removed the cap to add some premix antifreeze I had bought, when replacing the cap & it went on correctly, I knew then from the feel of the install, that I had resolved my problem. When I had checked it before the trip, I had a very difficult time reinstalling it and must have finally given up on it and assumed it was right. My error...
