• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

another way to open the trunk

i locked my key in trunk last night and while i was waiting for AAA, i took the left panel off and reached in pulled on the cable that goes to trunk latch and trunk was opened

wow.

so I guess the trunk isnt THAT secure. Good to know.

But some of the security of it is that most people don't know that its there. I have had many cases of someone being totally amazed that the Spyder has a trunk. I guess they think the engine is filling that space. :dontknow:

Yeah but this forum is public. So now anyone with internet access knows.

Its not like I leave valuables in there for long periods of time. Just thought it would be alot harder to get into than that.

I used to have a 1979 Jeep Cherokee Chief. The hood latch was outside the car at the front. We lived in Long Island at the time and really no issues till we stopped into the city. Doh! Come back to find missing pieces under the hood incl battery. I believe after that year, AMC stopped doing that with the hood opener.

I posted some months ago the idea to run a 28" length of picture hanging wire from the trunk release lever around the fuse box down to the oil tank area. Attach a small metal pull ring to the end and secure it near the oil tank. Then if keys get locked in trunk, you have an emergency release cable and don't need to try to reach up and find the trunk cable. Whatever works.

thought of "may be i am telling crooks how to open my trunk" did cross my mind but trunk was never safe. if someone wanted get in my trunk, i think they can simply rip it out. its just piece of plastic. most valuable thing in my trunk for the most part is my lunch other than my helmet;)
i figure it will be more helpful than more harm.

The Spyder trunks security in any scenario is just a means of keeping an honest person honest. If somebody wants something in your trunk bad enough, they will get it whether they know how to access the trunk latch cable or if they just take a pry bar or 3lb. hammer to it. :sour: They wouldn't have to read about those last two methods on SpyderLovers or any other forum.

I did something very similar, with aircraft cable and a poly tube sheath. This happened after I was unable to find the correct cable in the dark (flashlight and tools locked in trunk.). That reminds me, Nancy still owes me for my two hour trip each way to fetch the spare key. :D Haven't used the emergency release since, but it is good piece of mind. I think the previous thread was title "Emergency Trunk Release".

If thieves monitor this forum, they won't break into the trunk, they'll take the windshield. The owners on this forum will buy anything made of clear plastic. :D

by the way if do lock your keys in the trunk its the panel with 3 quarter turn keys you need to open. which is perfect because you wont have the tool kit:p
