Another Reported Fire

I saw this on the Can-AM Spyder Facebook site today.

It was a 2013 from what I could tell by the poster. This is what was posted word for word with spelling and all caps. I basically copied and pasted it.

Thought I would share as the person is saying GET YOUR RECALL DONE!

I LOVE MY BIKE EVEN HAD A $4,000 custom paint job on it.

Sad news..!!

Is he saying he did not do the updates and recalls..?? Was a near dissaster glad they had good fast responders in the situation. Hope he was not burned badly. Also saw one with a 2009 catching fire while ryding with his girlfriend. He did say he just got it back together before the ryde so not clear what happened. :yikes:

spyder fire

I was waiting on the light to enter the gas station on my spyder when her bike caught fire

by the time I got in the lot it was out minimal damage due to a fast firefighter in the group with a dry chem extinguisher

like was said when she pulled off the road up to the pump lifted the seat and opened the cap (yes it was the new type) and the fumes escaped and went up from a small internal flame that sparked up (no idea where it started )

this was a 2012 with 16k miles just got back 3 weeks prior from the dealer doing 15k checkup and oil and tire change

the bike did over heat the weekend prior in stop and go traffic to the extent it shut down

not sure if this caused the issue when it caught fire but its sitting in the dealers lot now

if there is more info ill post also but at this time nothing

Although I'm not sure if they have referenced the new ECM programming, or the heat barrier endeavors...

Was it a 2013 or 2012? Two different year models listed. Sounds like the fuel vapors released from the tank were ignited (?). By what? Good thing someone was able to react. Hope she is healing well.

Question... It was my understanding the ECM Programming was not available for the 2012 models.

This has been an issue from the beginning. Other than the 13's that have burned I have now read about a 2009 & now a 2012. I also thought the boiling gas was directly related to the 13's and I find out this week it has also been an issue with previous years.

I have a bad feeling my 2012 is next to flame out, dealer or BRP don't give a ratz **z about my heat, strong gas smell, or drips.:banghead::barf:

There will be more cases like this, overheated fuel tanks and melting parts and some of us have serious fuel leaks now.
