• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just signed up to start my research. Current rides are a goldwing, FJR1300 and a KLR650. After a couple close calls on the last cross country trip with the wing wanting to take a nap at low speeds on uneven surface along with some spine issues has me thinking about three wheels . I'm not a fan of the standard trikes because I don't like the steering effort and the ability to tip over to easy.
If you were buying a used spyder rt what are the main things to look for. I know I should search but you folks need some fresh meat to pick at.;)

:welcome:
Which model tickles your fancy the most? :dontknow:
If you're into chasing horizons; the RT should be in your crosshairs... The 2010 and 2011 versions were good, but had a few teething problems.
The 2012 and 2013 models are a lot better; the 2013s with the updates done are probably the best of the 998 bikes...
But the 2014 and later RTs are a quantum leap ahead of their predecessors!

Actually, the whole process is pretty easy. Any :spyder2: dealer can run the Vin and show you the service record for any :ani29:. You can determine if it had "regular" service or was prone to many repairs.

Pricing is a whole different ballgame. You have to do a lot of shopping around to determine what is good for your area.

Be careful of craigslist or e-bay. Prices that are to good to be true are usually just that. Don't get scammed.

Test drives are still recommended to see if the :spyder2: is for you. They are different from traditional trikes. They handle different and have many safety features that are not available on standard trikes. IMO--this makes :ani29: a step above.

Dont buy anything before 2014...2014 and above have 1330 Rotax engines....more power for getting on off freeways.

While there are some '14-'15 models with the 998 V-twin, the 1330 ACE engine gives you, in addition to more power, a six speed transmission, uses no oil, less frequent maintenance and better gas mileage with the RT and F3 models.

Hmmm .. don't know that this advice gives a true picture of the 998 capabilities. I have a 2013 RT and can't say that I have ever found myself struggling to get on any highway and pulling away from vehicles travelling over the posted 70mph!

If you can find a used RT with some upgrades already done look for one that has the Upgraded Bajaron swaybar. This and perhaps upgraded Elka or Fox shocks would give you a very effortless steering

:agree: Buy a 2014, the 14's have a quiter engine, better gas mileage, low maintance, 1200- W alternator, less trips to the dealership, 1330 Ace Rotax engines, refined front design and heat management, new Sachs shocks, higher torque, smoother ride. Deanna

Welcome..!!

Test ryde the different models then search for the one you like best, check the vin number with a dealer for records, then choose the one you like best. They are all good and would have had updates done...
