• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Another Newbee - some general questions

I just went from being up on 2 for the last 47 years to being on 3 as of last Friday. I bought a very low mileage 2011 RT-S, SE5. I rode it back from Sanford FL to home (Hickory NC) on Saturday and really like it. Please humor me by answering a few questions you all have probably heard 100 times.
I definitely want an anti-roll bar. Is BajaRon the best or is there a better one?
I am going to need to run power to the handlebar area for GPS, radar detector, and Gerbing. I had a fuse block on my last two wheeler and assume I should use one for this application too. Any one better than another?
What about mounts for all this stuff? I have used RAM mounts in the past, are they preferred for my application or is there a better way?
Thanks for your help.

Congrats on the new machine! Remember to upshift at 4500 or higher rpms. The engine is designed to run at high rpms. The power starts to come on at 4500 rpms and higher. The shifts will be quicker and smoother at higher rpms. The Bajaron sway bar will help greatly.

As far as i know ............................. the Baja Ron Bar is the only after market bar for the Spyder. And be sure to check out Spyderpops on the home page for Bump skid, grills etc, etc

TricLED & WireDux for Lights

JThornton for mounts

Keep those front tires at the same pressure to improve handling

Don't put your feet down at red lights

Don't look for the Kickstand (they are optional :roflblack:)

Welcome aboard

Joe,
I heard that the kickstand will once again be standard on the 2016 Limited...
It was removed when they "de-contented" the RT line-up, in 1998. ;)

Here is what I did and I found that the complete X-grip is cheapest at Walmart, you buy on-line and pick up at a store. I am not using the suction cup.

:welcome: & :congrats: on your new toy.Since your Spyder is used just make sure you do not have Ron's sway bar already.

Now THIS is what I call a great forum!

Thanks for the info guys and gals! I think I found a home here. One more thing: I've been out in the cold garage looking everywhere for that kickstand. Do you think mine is electric and retractable???

Another question...

Stormtrouper suggested that I check and see if the previous owner already installed a BajaRon swaybar. I crawled under today and there is a swaybar, black with the plastic ends. One of the pix I saw depicted the BajaRon bar as orange. Did the factory put a bar on the RT or could I have a BajaRon??? How can I be sure?
Thanks!!!

Welcome and enjoy.

The RAM mounts work well on the Spyder. There are four 7 mm bolts in the center of your handle bars that are the mounts. Two of these make excellent places to position RAM mounts. You will need to remove the bolts and replace them with ones that are about 1/2 to 3/4" longer so that you can add RAM mounts. As you can see from the photo I added mounts for my cup holder and for my I phone. You won't find longer bolts in a 7 mm size (only Can Am uses 7 mm anyway) so you will have to go with 8 mm but as long as the thread is the same you are good to go.

You will also need a small chrome spacer to hold the RAM mount in place between the bars and the mount. I used the two upper bolts in my application.
