Another New RT SE5 Owner

Hi All,

I'm a new RT SE5 owner myself and just returned from a short drive that ended in total disappointment. As I was entering the neighborhood at 20 mph my multifunction/infotainment center digital display turned orange with an exclamation point and a digital "check engine" scrolling across the display. Immediately stopped and it went away, pulled into the driveway and it popped up again. Pulled up to the garage and was not able to turn it back on. All it did was make a clattering noise like the battery was drained. It was, and I now have it on a charger to see what happens next.

Has anyone experienced this with a new RT (less than 10 miles on it)? Or does anyone have a reasonable explanation - other than driver error :yikes:

ive read at least 10 post just like yours,the dealers are not chargen the batt,.enough and leaving the batt. wires too loose.get a battery tender and keep it on the spyder all times your not riding.same goys with the fusess and relays they vibrate loose.check them every 500 miles;ive found them loose 2 times.and keep your foot away from the brake when riding or you will go in to limp home mode.these are things ive lerned from these posts.and i found my batt,. loose one time .keep every thing tight and ride like the wind.:thumbup::2thumbs::congrats::welcome::chat: have fun.:spyder:

:congrats::welcome: sorry to hear you are one of the many with battery troubles from the get-go.

:agree:Battery tender will keep your battery in top shape although it won't fix a lose connection.

:congrats: on your new:spyder2: and I hope you just have a loose batt cable. I have only one problem with mine and that is gas fumes. I will try to get back to dealer this week to have it fixed.

Thanks for the information.

We put a battery tender on the bike from the time we brought it home and the tender never did turn green. Decided to follow the owner's manual to get to the battery so that we could check the connections. After taking the panels off and finally getting to the battery compartment we notice a black wire with a metal lead on the end pressed up against the metal battery holder (don't know the technical terms here). Anyway, it appears that this metal lead has been rubbing against the other metal bracket holding the battery and may have produced friction/sparks. The bike has less than 20 miles on it so I don't believe it's just normal wear - something has been happening under the seat in the battery compartment. My question is, does this belong somewhere or is it just an extra part (I hate to say that aloud)?

The screen should read "Dealer Prep Error!"
It is more than likely a bad connection on the battery.
The battery is under the seat.
Check the connections for tightness.

It's far too common and BRP's Dealer network should feel ashamed.

Loose battery connections/uncharged battery will cause the issues mentioned.

I am not the mechanical expert--so cannot give good advice about the black wire and rubbing issue.

I am guessing someone will answer that question for you before to long.

:welcome::congrats: I had battery issues too when mine was new but once getting it fully charged and connections tightened I have never had problems again - and that is without a tender through nearly 18000 miles now.. Of course I don't have to worry about cold weather drain on the battery here

Sorry to hear about your porblems, but I'am sure you will get them resolved. If the dealer isn't far I would take it back and let them deal with it. Anyway :welcome:

Sight unseen :dontknow: ,I think that lose wire is the negative terminal to the battery it probably was never tight and just fell off.:gaah:
