• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

In Lamonster's video he explains how to use a battery tender with direct connection through the trunk power outlet.

My question is what brand tender is he using, and is there anything special regarding the tender equipment that allows it to work like this? I have only used tenders that connect to the battery terminals directly.
I was going to get a cheap $10 tender from Harbor Freight but I really like the idea of using the trunk connection.

Since the batt is in the front for the newer models. Why not just hook it up to the batt and leave the leads in the trunk?

i purchased a HARBOR FREIGHT Battery Tender, cut the alligator clips off, and connected it to a Radio Shack 12V plug... just plug n play is all you do....
works beautifully....

It can't get much easier than moving the fuse and just plugging into the 12V plug in the trunk. :dontknow: Very easy. don't have to hook anything to the battery.
 
What I am getting so far is that any battery tender that has a 12v accessory plug will work. Is this right? Based on the feedback so far it would seem not a lot of people use the trunk connection, but this is what I want to do for now.

Many of us use the "Battery Tender Jr."......plug it in and forget it. I've got several I use during cold months on bikes, cars, tractor, etc.
 
Battery Tender Jr. is the brand I use.

Have the BT connected to the battery terminals under the seat on the 2011 and to the battery connection cord in the frunk on the 2014.

Like Bob mentioned, the BT green light comes on quicker on the 2014.
 
My dealer already had the battery leads hooked up when I bought the:f_spider:, just open the frunk and connect the tender..:2thumbs::2thumbs:

you did move the fuse over; didn't you? :shocked:
Any 2013 or later Spyder RT, will need to move the fuse, if they want that power outlet to be "hot" all of the time. :thumbup:
 
Thanks again to all you helpful folks. It seems there are 2 similar methods, one requires moving the fuse and one requires exposing the battery temporarily. Neither requires expensive tender hardware. I got what I need now to make it through the winter.

Yes, I did that right away because I wanted to charge my cell phone or headset while eating lunch or dinner on the road. My compliments to BRP for offering a choice. Now I want to put in an ignition switched outlet somewhere on the front console. Not sure how I am going to do that yet.

I swap it around; depending on the Season...
For the riding Season; my XM receiver is hooked up to it; so I set it up as a keyed source of power.
For Off-Season storage: it's "Tender Time", so it goes to a constant hot setup! :2thumbs:
