There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Annoyed by people asking how much $$$$ ...

My usual reply to an inquiring Harley rider asking "How much does it cost?" is "About $8000 less than a TriGlide". ;)

No no no you are so wrong.....it's about $10,000 to $15,000 less that a TriGlide! Depends on how much the local HD dealer wants to stick folks!

Some people start by asking how much, I very my technique I use in answering the question. For some I say that they start out at 21k & go to 35k, if there expression is "yikes" I let them know this is the touring version and that they might like the sport version that goes from $13k-18k. I tell them that I got the whole kitten- kabudle with a trailer ,and immediately they say they saw the trailer hitch, so I say yeah I have gone across country in this, I tell them I spared no expense, that this is paddle shift with am/fm/ xm radio,iPod & cb so I can stay in communication with the world all through my helmet, while using the GPS to navigate with...I tell them this is the most fun I have had in my life, that I use to have a car that I would take to the race track twice a year, and that this is the most excillerating feeling , and that I knew it after a 5 minute test ride. Some I say to never try it out, and others I would give them a pocket brochure and tell them where my dealership is.

Wow, you certainly spend a lot of time answering that question. I wouldn't have that much patience.

My answer to pricing

I have had the same thing happen to me and I am 70 years old. My answer to everyone is "Depends on how your dress it!" :2thumbs:

You need to understand the intent of the question. They are actually admiring the technology you are lucky enough to own. It's a compliment no matter how the question is asked.

Sorry - but the manner in which the question is asked really matters- and shouting "how much dat cost"? As the first and most likely only question is RUDE.

Tina and I stopped for breakfast awhile back and one of the cooks was outside on a break when we pulled up. He asked how much mine was--- I was nice (didn't want him spitting on my food lol) so I told him $20,000. He said "damn- well how much was the black one (Tina's) "?
As if the different color would suddenly make one of these in his price range.

I think people ask he price more now because of the massive tv exposure. First 2 years riding people would say " what the heck is that". Now almost all of them say " I saw that on TV".

But I love the answers I get when I say that the roadster/trailer combination I ride cost somewhere in the $30,000 range.

RESPONSES:

- Gosh, that's more than my car cost.
- All that and you still don't have a roof for it.
- My house cost less than that.
- You mean three, not thirty don't you?
- How does that compare with what a Harley costs?
- Omigod!

Can't wait to tell the (new, readjusted) price of owning a 2008 RS.....:yikes::lecturef_smilie:

Questions vary....

I've had questions that vary from something along the lines of... "Hey..I hear those things are hard to steer, what did that overgrown snow mobile on wheels cost you?"... If that happens, I just give'em the old stink eye look.. that generally translates in any language into kiss me where the sun don't shine, and I get on with what ever I was doing... Then, there's the opposite approach question. "Wow man, that thing is beautiful...do you like it... how does it steer...is it comfortable... I think my wife might ride on one of those, etc. Do you mind telling me what they cost?" That type questions warrants a considerate and accurate answer.. IMHO of course.. Len

I like to tell folks who ask what it costs that it's not what I've got in it that matters; it's what I get out of it that's important to me!

I now tell people this and feel good about it. They could be potential :spyder2: drivers in the future and some people don't know how to strike up a conversation without asking a question.

Annoyed with the how much did it cost question!

I do not like to be asked that question either and I politely tell them that I will not answer that question! At which point I refer them to the dealerships or tell them to go online. To me, that is like asking a person how much is in your bank account or how much your mortgage is!

I agree with you firefly, akspyderman, RmRock and I especially love your comment effgjamis....All great answers to such an annoying question!

Dan, those type of people you need to talk to in a language they understand.

"It's about 1200 times the cost of a pack of smokes and a pint of whiskey." You'll be long gone by the time they get done rattling that around in their heads.
Love your answer! We had two truckers :chat: over the CB with Erags one night as we were coming home on the :spyder2:, and their questions eventually got around to cost. When Erags told them, the one trucker responded "That's about as much as a double-wide in Kentuck!":roflblack:

Considering that the Australian dollar currently buys around $1.05 US its hard to figure out why an RS costs around $27,000 AUD and an RT around $36,000 AUD (from memory)

I really don't get annoyed when I get asked the price... I just give them a ball park figure and tell them of the RS ballpark. What really annoys me is when they answer with similar quotes:

Some people comment that it's the price of a car.
Others say its about the same as other bikes
some others say wow that is a lot.

Question I've been getting lately is :"Do you like it?" not "How do you like it?" I tell them "No, I hate it - people always asking Do you like it" :doorag:

I get that quite a bit... I give them the "I hate it" answer along with "I like to torture myself everyday rYding it!!"

I generally get 2 different reactions. It is way too expensive or it is much less than they expected. Very few have not been surprised one way or the other.

But I love the answers I get when I say that the roadster/trailer combination I ride cost somewhere in the $30,000 range.

My general answer on the :yikes: reaction to the price is that it is still cheaper than getting a HD or a Goldwing and adding a trike conversion kit to it. I had a friend that re-morgaged his home to spend $17K on getting his Superglide on a trike.:dontknow:

wen to get a gas today, and when I came out of the store there was two 20 yr olds circleing spydie like a couple sharks. The first thing they asked was how fast I had it up to. Told them fast enough to loose my liscense. Then one asked if it will do a burnout, and if i'd show him a little of what it could do. I said sure..If u give me $200 bucks 4 a new tire i'll be glad too. Thy got in there car and left...Dam kids

Rudeness is a way of life...

Lately I've been barraged by people asking how much my Spyder cost to buy......and some are downright annoying and rude.

I don't mind when someone seems to have a genuine interest in the Spyder-- or if they ask in a decent manner--- like "If you don't mind me asking.... yada yada yada..".
To these people I'll give them a base of around $17,000 and tell them they go up from there maxing out around $25,000.

But lately I've had people that you can just tell would never make enough in a lifetime to own a Spyder shout out "How much that cost?".

When they are far away I just ignore them like I can't hear through my helmet--- but when they are close and I must answer I'll usually say "around 20". To which they usually ask "THOUSAND?????". No -- like I meant 20 DOLLARS---- WTH ?

I was raised that it was rude to ask people how much something costs - and in this day and age of 'THE' GOOGLE.... I can find the price out on my own if I'm that interested......

Anyway --- how do you all handle this ??

Here rudeness on the street is a way of life...

Usually in traffic lights or traffic jams somebody surely stops by or simply shouts his lungs out and asks the damn question, without even saying "Hello"

Depending on the looks of the guy and my mood, I have two stock answers:

1.- "Don't know..., it was a gift from my youngest girlfriend (I am and look 60 years old...)" which brings a lot of smirking smiles.

2.- "Don't know..., I just stole it and I am running away from the police..." which also brings smirking smiles and surprised looks. :yikes:

Saludos, Pilo

How much does it cost.

I have been in a differnt situation twice where someone will ask me for a ride to see how it feels. I always answer "it will cost you 43 centavos. They take out 50 cntavos and once again I tell them 43 centavos. Then comes out one peso and I say again 43 centavos. 43, 40 and 3 centavos. Since there are no 1 centvo coins down here they finally get the idea and walk away knowing why.

Like i said in a earlier post, When someone asks how much did it cost ,I just tell them what it cost.
why are Spyder owners so defensive ? Feel guilty you paid so must for a toy?
You shouldn't, i'm sure like me you worked hard for the money, You should spend it as you see fit.
That's whats keeps the economy growing.:D
