• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Anecdotal evidence that the RT has more problems than the RS?

Thanks all for the thoughts.... like I said, it's just an impression that I get, but it's likely a selection bias given the popularity of the RT vs. the RS.

Sadly, I won't be buying an RT anytime soon even if I wanted one-- then again, I'm VERY happy with my RS too. Maybe I should have both :D.
I HAD both an 09 RS SE5 and now the RT-S. Old bones made me have to sell theRS. Had NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT SPYDER!!! They replaced the DPS and I didn't even know there was a problem with it. Have to admit it did steer better afterwards! But REALLY enjoy the RT it is SOOOO comfortable!!! Lotsa storage space. Think more that the RS and I had the saddle bags on it. ( Wish the bags on the RT came off and could use like a suit case like on the RS BUT----) Still the most compfy thing goin down the road. Had 15+++ on RS and now have over 15+++ on RT and it's a 2010. Got it Jun of 10. Soooo it's hard to make up ones mind on these things so just go for it and enjoy which ever one flops yer mop!!

Agreed on the setup, and how that seems to make all the difference in the world.

So much so, that if/when I'm in the market for an RT, I might just fly my behind out to Cowtown and ride one back! :doorag:
Fly?? To Missouri?? Have you seen the airports in Missouri? 50 feet long and 5000 wide. Hard to stop in 50 feet.:roflblack::roflblack:

More issues with the RTs?? That actually makes a lot of sense; it is a more complicated machine with a whole lot more code stored in the computers...
Perhaps all of us "Olpharts" who buy them are nautrally crankier and if a glitch shows up, we head right off to get somebody to fix it???? :gaah:
:shemademe_smilie::shocked:

Who you callin' cranky:mad:

Ok, I agree it's a lot in the setup and yes there is a lot more going on with an RT, its has way more options and the sales are much larger on RT's....I ordered 83 RT's And 2 RS's....don't get me wrong we still sell a lot of used RS's there both good bikes, and each have there strong point. I would hate to see a rs people veres rt's.....we are small group and close one, if you ryde and RT your a friend, if you ryde an RS your a friend there will always be a next model, a new kid on the block, for now its simple Lets all be friends....I'm done carry on

:agree: It should not (does not for me) matter if you ryde a RT or a RS. We are a group of ryders that love ryding their Spyders. I ryde a RS, and have ryding buddies that ryde the RT.

I ride a 2010 base RT with no mods except 2011 RT shocks to make it corner a little better and Alaska Leather seat pads. I've had two minor issues with it. First, both side panels blew off but they were both replaced by BRP and glueing the grommets in place solved the problem. The other issue has to do with the engine starting, idling too fast, a little over 2000 RPM, but barely having enough power to untrack. Kill it, turn the key off and on 3 or 4 times and restart it and everything's fine. I expect it's the throttle body problem that others have had, primarily on the 2011's. Admittedly, this may be a little more serious problem but since there was never a danger of being stranded somewhere it's still minor to me. My dealer has been working with me to fix it and it will be fixed for good before my warranty runs out.

The RT is far and away the best two-up touring machine I've ever owned. It's rock solid comfort on any highway I've been on and, while it won't run top end with a sport bike or, for that matter, a Gold Wing or a BMW, I have no problem staying up with the folks I ride with. RT's and RS's are different machines for a different type of ride, not necessarily for different riders. If I could afford it, I'd have one of each. Since I can't, the RT is the best choice for my wife and me.

Given a choice

You all know are far to kind to a little shop in the midwest. :ohyea: Thanks guys, we really are thankful to be a part of a great community of spyderlovers.

Given a choice, for the stuff I don't do myself I would rather deal with you all exclusively.

Meanwhile, RTs are inherently more complicated machines and setup, assembly, and rider settings are critical. And like Bob mentioned, there is the crankiness factor. As time passes, I'm seeing a lot fewer posts about RTs that are rack rangers. If you have access to a trusted competent dealer, then fear not. When the time comes, get that RT, you will be so happy you did.

It is we who owe you a thanks. I never would have bought a Spyder were it not for the knowledge that a shop likes your's exists, and for the incredibly knowledable and helpful folks on this forum, such as Lamonster, Scotty and others. That's what made the difference in my purchase decision.

Many people here on this board were not around a few years ago when the GS/RS was coming out...they had plenty of problems..but with 3-4 years to correct them, it's a much better machine now...

The RT has many more electronic components than the RS. It's only logical that it will have more problems. I'm sure in a few years, they'll all be ironed out...until the next new Spyder comes out...then that will take the cake for having issues.

To me It's simple, treat people like you want to be treated. I know what its like being on each side's of the counter. Do it right, treat people right, know what your doing, find it out, or figure it out, and don't lie about........None of thats over complicated.
We..... meaning me! screw up and don't get it right every time, but do try hard to.
It's our biz to know.....and I do have a secret on stuff. There's this little form I know called "spyderlover"....I use it for a great info, to know whats going on....... ssshhhh don't let one of my secrets out:thumbup:
