• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

And you thought it was just old age??

· An article which appeared in several Fairfax newspapers:

Motorbike riders risk impotence, say doctors
Most seats are too hard
Kate Benson, Medical Reporter 23.11.08

Men who ride motorcycles are at risk of impotence and urinary problems because the vibration of the engine damages nerves in their penises, a study has found.
A survey of more than 230 motorcyclists who rode their bikes for about three hours every weekend found almost 70 percent had problems gaining an erection or emptying their bladders.
Doctors in Japan who published two studies on the dangers in the International Journal Of Impotence Research said seats on most motorcycles put undue pressure on the perineum, the area between the anus and the scrotum and restricted blood flow to the penis. Vibrations from the engine also caused a decrease in two growth hormones in the bladder and prostate related to bladder relaxation.:yikes:

I bet there are other factors at work here, like most guys who have the TIME to ride 3 hours a day are at or beyond retirement age.
Besides, don't they make a pill for that now??:shocked:

So what are these researchers doing? Going to biker hang outs and asking all the guys "Does your unit still work and if it doesn't, when did it quit?"

My guess would be the Harley guys are taking the biggest hit on this one. But I'm not sure you can get a Harley to run for 3 hours in just 2 days!

Amazing what these researchers will spend money on.

And then, nobody mentioned the effect of seat vibration on the fairer sex. There's even some outfit that makes a special pillion seat that has extra vibration built in. Kinda twisted if you ask me. YMMV:hun:

I've been riding, and riding a lot, for 50 years. Somehow I managed to keep the same wife, and sire two kids in that span. Sounds like a scare tactic brought on by the cycle haters to me.

This likely falls on the heels of the research regarding bicycle riding and impotence. If a male sits straddled on anything for too long a period of time, there is testicular pressure, and this can upset function. I'm sure if they did the same study with horse jockeys, they'd find the same thing.

I guess the solution is easy...get a more comfortable, softer seat for the Spyder...

Will try to address this thread >>>>

>>>>>without violating the clean board policy.

First couple of rides on the Spyder my hands and privat area felt the tension and went numb. With a bit more time out there I no longer have any problems as I have learned to relax and where to sit on the Spyder. Over the years I have never replaced a saddle on a MC though have used sheep skins at times. With pedel bikes I used quality "break-in" type leather saddles but quit riding before the new gel systems came into use.

As for my '60 FL, there was 57 mph, top gear, level ground, that several times had Kansas Farm Girls nearly choking the wind out of me. Running US-36 over the rolling hills of central Kansas flat out seemed to give a new meaning to a "thrill ride" for a couple ladies as it went from winding out down hill to lugging a bit on the grade.

Riding for 51 years almost everyday and a lot more than 3hrs. a week end. Never a problem with this. It took prostrate cancer to do me in. :spyder:

Could be the high quality saddles and the excellent vibration reduction designed into those vintage bikes you rode. ;)

Hey, I still ride them. I guess it's good that the rides on the fuel bikes, where you just sat against the fender, didn't last more than a few seconds, eh? Oh yeah, I might add that Triumphs seem to vibrate a bit. Must be the carbs are out of synch. LOL

Actually erectile dysfunction or impotence is more likely in males to have psychological causes instead of physical causes. NPT or Nocturnal Penile Tumescence can be used to determine the causes. Basically if your body will produce an erection during sleep then it is a psychological reaction. This is why a report based off of surveying riders could be providing false data.

Oh, no you don't... I'm not touching this thread... mostly. :D :yikes:

I do like docduru's reply, though.

.

I would think that cowboys, especially, bull and bronc riders would be the most prone to this problem. Now that is some serious vibration, though only for 8 seconds or less at a time.
